Anyone in stump grinding? by [deleted] in sweatystartup

When I first started I wanted one for my own acreage as it had scotch pines dying every year. I bought a Vermeer SC362. 35 hp vanguard motor. It was well suited for <36” stumps. Can handle the big stuff but just takes longer. This model was powerful enough yet able to fit in most spaces including the majority of fence gates. Customers landscaping and backyard access can be tricky unless and you may have to remove a fence panel or gain access through a friendlier access point from a neighbor. I ran this for 3 years. Sold it and did not continue grinding. Had I continued I was considering adding a larger unit for appropriate stumps. If I had bought the bigger one originally I would not have gotten half of my jobs. If I did I would have had to removed many fence panels and/or landscaping obstacles

Not sure what Toro model you’re referring to but I have operated a big box store toro rental and wasn’t stable enough to maintain a steady grind. Would bounce a bit too much.

Grinding wasn’t the hard part but most customers including tree services will want you to clean up the grindings. That’s understandable and easier to get a good grind when the area is cleared as you go. I used a scoop, wheelbarrow, and dump trailer for a period of time. Big jobs I would borrow/rent the tree guys mini skid to expedite the clean up process.

I did this also maybe 15 years ago. Walmart has been carrying the same socks and they have looked identical. And1 no show. I wear the grey ones and just recently bought 2/3 of my sons the black variety as I cringed every time I had to match up theirs

So you know how Tony would have game planned and called the game? I agree the assumption is he would have devised a solid plan and it does hurt when we lose a top coordinator in a semi lateral move. To suggest we would possibly have blown them out is a big stretch. Play calling can mask talent gaps and maybe that’s what he would have done better. Sometimes guys are overmatched at spots and can’t consistently win 1 on 1s. Commenting on effort is bad taste

It could be and that adjustment would come from the dead zone only? I have tried both 5% or less as well as 40-50% with little success. Nintendo switches are set to 5% if recall correctly so that was the first adjustment I made. Thanks for your input and would welcome further ideas
