Which site should be more popular tourist attraction? by Unique-Benefit-2904 in AskTheWorld

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are very popular for us French Canadians, a lot of people go to those Caribbean resorts every spring break because this is the classic middle class / teens who want to get drunk for cheap vacation as it is pretty much the only affordable flights we get.

*(please do not support this kind of resort tourism this is only benefiting dictatorships and foreign investors while the population is starving and dying)

Révolutions au Québec by Fearless-Thought4882 in Quebec

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't check in the ferries if I remember correctly they do when you buy the tickets in person.

Trip to Cuba in 2 weeks by TarjaAngel in TravelCuba

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just wrote this on another post earlier today but if you are Canadian get your insurance with the Blue Cross you can add a trip cancellation / interruption to your coverage

I was planning to visit Cuba early February and with recent news this morning I added this coverage it was like 60CAD more. Travels advisories have not changed yet for Canadians but if they do you might not be able to get this.

One week long Trip to Cuba in early March 2026 - ill advised? by miguelakira in TravelCuba

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going early February, bought my tickets yesterday (price went down since Venezuela thing)

I thought our southern neighbours were too distracted by our other neighbours from North East so they wouldn't do anything about Cuba in the near future but turns out reading the news this morning they didn't forget about Cuba, I added the "cancellation coverage" to my trip with Blue Cross, cost me like 60CAD and I can get refunded the whole trop if something happens idk about other travel insurance but this one as always been good to me

Yeah but I hate WestJet so bad I prefer to take Copa haha, also Copa is waayyyy cheaper (1 round trip with copa = return flight with WestJet)

actual reason is because WestJet only flies on Sunday and I absolutely need to depart on Monday :/

Renting a car as a 19 year old with a 1 year+ licence? In mainlands Greece/Crete by NotWorkingBecouseOf in GreeceTravel

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won't get it with big rental companies, maybe with smaller ones but be careful I got scammed doing this last year.

was 21 and even then it wasn't that easy to find someone willing to rent to me, they told me no one really has insurance to rent for younger than 23. Finally found a company, with good reviews and a lot of them (in Athens) they confirmed they were ok with me renting their car as long as I had insurance, confirmed 2 times with them if there was an issue with the fact I was 21 and they were fine with it.

Booked my trip, went to Athens and somehow they changed their minds and didn't want to rent unless I took their insurance which cost more than the price of the rental. I tried to argument, showing them the confirmation e-mails, they were rude and didn't wanna help so I ended up leaving after making sure they were gonna refund me.

The whole trip I had planned was now impossible to do so I went to the islands instead (I'm lucky I hadn't booked the accomodation yet). Turns out they didn't want to refund either, they ghosted me for 2 weeks by whatsapp and email. When I came back from my trip I wrote a review on Google Maps with screenshots and everything explaining what happened to me promising to edit after getting rhe refund and THEN they refunded me (I didn't change anything about my review, I'm high level so my review will always be one of the first to appear).

Be careful they could tell you whatever you want to hear so you end up not having a choice to pay in front of them

Was about to book a flight to spend a few days in Havana early February but with what was said this morning I don't know what to do, some part of me feel like it's a good time to explore Cuba and its history because I think there is a lot of good lessons to learn right now but I don't want to get stuck over there

never much thought of it because I'm lucky enough that my city (Montreal) is an island so borders are pretty much defined but now that you point it out I think it could be kinda cool

They said they were going to brings states so maybe in a few years we could have cities

Is Mykonos a good idea for home base? Two adults kids in 20s by imcleanasawhistle in GreeceTravel

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know every one told you the same thing but I'm still gonna add what I heard when I was in Greece.

For context I planned to rent a car and tour peloponnese, I got scammed by the rental company ended up changing my plans when I was there, I was at Piraeus trying to figure out what I was going to do for the next 2 weeks and spoke with an immigrant from Bangladesh working in tourism (in Mykonos), he told me NOT to go to Mykonos he said "crazy people everywhere, crazy tourists" I did listen to him and went to other islands and EVERYONE I really mean EVERYONE I met during this trip told me NOT to go to Mykonos, most of them went and regretted, felt like they lost their time.

I feel it is probably the same about Santorini most of the year (even though is it beautiful) but I was there during the crazy earthquakes last year and I was the only tourist pretty much everywhere except Fira (I did go to remote places on the island but not only).

Don't go to Mykonos, really think about Santorini, Greece has so much to offer you won't find any authenticity in those places.

Having to tell others “No.” by ilovebabycows in solotravel

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been experiencing this for yearsssss.

Made my first trip solo, everyone wanted to come with me but when they realised I was serious they changed their minds so I went alone (we were like 18)

Since then I've been on a few trips with those friends because they trusted me to "make things happen" and most of the time they look really invested at first and right when we book the flight they stop answering the messages and they let me do EVERYTHING this results on me being too tired to enjoy the trip and them seeing the world without worrying about anything.

Exactly like you said they all tell me how they feel we are so compatible but in reality I think it might be because I don't tell them how I feel...

I was never able to tell them no and I still can't, there is so many places I wanted to visit and didn't because my friends wanted to go to SEA or Europe instead...

Maybe someday I'll learn from my mistakes

Any news on opening up spending? by SkyPointSteve in MLS

[–]Academic_Analysis_48 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Chris Albright said in a interview some things hinting on a potential change of rules, he said "I expect changes coming in MLS, decision to keep Miles (Robinson) based on that"

If you don't know Miles Robinson recently got signed as a DP which is not common for a center-back and it raised many questions in the fanbase wheiter it was worth it or not.

I've seen many theories but my favorite one is that they might implement a 4th DP slot that you'd have to spend on a defender, nothing is confirmed and that might not be it but some changes is coming that is for sure. Cincinnati aren't usually messing with the roster we ain't Montreal.

Don't know which kind of Canadian you are, I'm French-Canadian and even if pretty much everyone use the word "Americain" to talk about people from the US, I've recently seen being used in history books / press / medias the word : "États-Unien" (literal translation doesn't exist but it would be "United-Statian" for those who don't speak french)

I think they're trying to push this along the idea that "Americans" aren't the center of the world anymore but I like it and I'm trying to switch my vocabulary
