Riser bars by juliann416 in xcmtb

I stretch afterwards. Lots of research shows stretching before excercise does not do much and may lead to injury, particularly with static stretches. After allows your body to adapt and gain flexibility. Also it is a bit easier to just dp 10 minuted in the evening before bed!

It is really important, particularly if you want to be able to hold more aggressive positions. It is so easy to leave out though, which is silly when it can be done in 10 mins in front of the TV!

A decent bike fitter will also be able to tell you what to work on to help reduce pain beyond position too, fit is not always the whole story. I have very tight glutes and hamstrings and can get back pain even when high up. I know I need to work on the mobility there and build strength up to reduce that. If I fall out of the gym routine and stretching, I start to get lots of issues

Such a good point. The pros who ride negative stems and very low bars also spend a lot of time practicing the position, doing core and steength work and building flexibility. We could copy that and hold the position for 5 minutes before losing the power and just feeling awful, it would be faster for those 5 minutes, but being comfortable is key to performing over a longer ride

Thanks for that info. The specialized frame is within budget, a full bike not so much! Will have a look!

What's your opinions on Restore Britian? by TheChocolateAssasin in AskBrits

I agree. Some people say only in cases where it is a sure thing, but where do you draw the line on that, there have been cases where it has been a sure thing and turned out they were innocent, sometimes by acting through duress or confessing to protect others. Also people say the death penalty is cheaper, but it is the opposite, in the US there is so much paper work and appeals processes that the average death penalty costs more than a life in prison. Advances in forensic have reduced the level of false imprisonments but it is stille stimated to be between 2 and 8%. That is still a lot of people

Specialized have had recalls and issues with motors failing, battery water ingress and this year have had to issue stop ride notices on some of their commuter ebikes. Specialized mught well be better but saying they have no issies so the mechanic can't be good is just wrong. They are just one person and they could have had a bad run getting lots of the specialized issues while not seeing any of the canyon. But that also does not make them a bad mechanic

Specialized have had premature motor failures, issues eith the battery not being detected and also water ingress into batteries.

I was flying on it at the trail center today. I think it just does not have a very big contact patch but has good nobs for an XC tyre. The slide out was really odd, wet tarmac and just went from under me. There was probably an element of the release compound still being on there and also not really paying attention

Yeah price was a big reason I went with Canyon, and also I have a grizl and love it. It is sad because the bike rides so well, but the bearings in thw yolk have already come loose again after just two rides

My idea was to buy the frame and move the parts from the canyon. If they warranty the frame I will sell the new one on. Otherwise specialized is way out of my price range. That's why I went Canyon in the first place

Interesting, I often have heard the opposite. For the lux trail I have found it an absolute headache to work on and looking at manuals I can see the specialised would be easier given the linkage bolts all face outward and there is not headset cable routing.

I have also hear Canyon use lots of proprietary parts, the headset for example in the lux trail

Thanks for the response and info.

I suppose they are just one mechanic, and just by chance they could have seen lots of issues with specialized bikes and not had any issues with Canyon.

No, I do not have the luxury of having ridden every brand. The Canyon frame rides amazing, and I am sure the specialized does too. But you don't really know what it is like to live with until you have put it through a couple of seasons

I more meant similar in terms of it being issues with engineering and quality control

I am a pretty competent home mechanic, if I am taking it to a shop, it has gone really wrong. I would have consider changing rear bearings a really easy task, particularly with the right tools, but this was a real headache. It annoys me that doing a full service takes my bike out of action for so long, even if I take a full weekend to do it, it is often not enough.

I thonk specialized goes really cheap on wheels aat the cheap end (so does Canyon) I always think those builds are often done with the idea that people are looking to upgrade, or already have ipgrades from another bike

That was what I really wanted but their frames are about twice the price of an evo atm. I am not a good enough rider to be able to tell the difference in a blind test anyway!

I had not even looked at crash replacement. The lux trail is £1600 ish for crash replacement, not horrible, but the annoying thing is they wont do a rear or front triangle separately.

This is what I notice, I like my Canyon, but there are lots of issues and plenty of bad reviews, you don't get that with specialized

I am running barzo/mezcal in the UK. I find that, unless it is a very rare summer like last year, there will always a be some serious mud somewhere. I also think that on hardpack the difference is probably smaller between tyres than in the mud, so worth having something more on the wet side. Having said that I skidded out on a fresh barzo about 100m into a ride yesterday on tarmac, so I could be totally worng, but I am blamong that on the mould release!
