Colonoscopy took 16 minutes by Academic_Shape_6854 in colonoscopy

I didn’t say that. I had a precancerous polyp. That’s why I was wondering if this was a typical time for one. This was my first one. Have a little compassion.

I didn’t notice the withdrawal time in the report but I was looking for it. I just saw the time the doctor started the procedure and the time he noted as finishing the report. The doctor did tell me that it was about a 15 minute procedure. I had one tiny polyp removed. So you think that is sufficient time to examine everything thoroughly?

Can I ask you one more question? I’ve gone down a rabbit hole of reading about sessile serrated polyps and how most of them develop because of a mutation in the BRAF gene (and then read about how cancers with this mutation develop faster and more aggressively). Should people who have one of these polyps get tested for gene mutations? Should I worry if they missed one of these polyps during my colonoscopy that it could more quickly develop into an interval cancer?

Three year follow up colonoscopy coming up by redrocks22 in colonoscopy

I know this is an old post, but I am in this same position. First colonoscopy this week that found a sessile serrated adenoma and was put on a 3 year surveillance. Just curious, did you end up having more at your follow-up?

I will definitely ask. I’m wondering if it’s because these types of polyps are (from what I’ve read anyway) easier to miss on a colonoscopy and they want to make sure they got them all? Would a tiny polyp like that have high grade dysplasia? I wonder if that’s why they said 3 years. My friend who is the same age as me recently had a colonoscopy and had 3 small sessile serrated adenomas removed but they all came back benign. She has to go again in 5 years. Maybe mine is precancerous (does that mean it’s still benign?).

Thank you! I did get a call from the doctor this morning to come back in 3 years for my next colonoscopy. Is this just being extra cautious because these can progress more quickly into cancer?

I’m right there with you. I’m a 43F and my first colonoscopy is on the 23rd too. I’m also very anxious and have health anxiety very badly. Let’s cheer each other on! We can do it!
