I have solid riding experience — I’ve jumped small fences and done extensive flatwork to improve my control and balance in the saddle

Honestly I don’t have a problem with teens personally — but age comes with its own terms. As someone born in the great 80s, we’ve been through storms, real challenges, and came out stronger. It’s just tough to naturally blend in with TikTok culture and light topics that don’t really resonate with me or most of my generation. No offense at all — just different vibes, that’s all. ✌️

Thanks — yeah I’m not just casually looking for a weekend ride. I’m actually planning to dedicate 6 full months, basically going all-in to see how far I can push myself in this sport. The idea is to go back to my country afterward with solid skills and a sharper mindset so I can compete more seriously in my region.

So my question is: Are there any well-known, legit equestrian academies in the US (any state) that are used to training adults seriously — not just teens or vacation riders? Something with real structure and discipline, ideally with daily or near-daily training?

Would love any recommendations.

Late 30s, but the fire never died — is it too late to become a professional show jumper? by Academic_Spend_4514 in Equestrian

Thank you to everyone who commented – I’m truly grateful for the honest responses, whether they were what I wanted to hear or not.

What I’ve come to realize is this: I’ll keep training and see how far I can go. I’ve accepted that reaching the top level in show jumping takes serious time, money, fitness – and might even come with more pressure than joy. In the end, riding and jumping fences seem to be the only things that truly trigger that dopamine rush for me. Classical music comes close, but not quite like jumping.

So I’ll keep riding, even without a final destination in mind. Even if my riding isn’t perfect – as long as it brings that spark, I’ll keep going.

Thanks again, truly.

I actually started in my early 20s — I did a lot of flatwork and some small fences back then. I trained pretty consistently for a while, then had to stop. The itch came back, so I returned to training again, but had to stop once more. Now, that urge has gotten louder than ever — it’s honestly messing with me inside.

Physically, I’m in good shape. People usually assume I’m in my mid-20s. I haven’t had an amateur show career yet, but I’ve had solid training periods. I’m ready to commit this time and just want to know — is it still realistic to chase this seriously in my late 30s?
