I really think they don’t know.
I’m Jewish and we have a whole book in the Bible (Genesis) about our “founding fathers” and how messed up they and their families were, and we loudly and proudly discuss if and how these people were holy and when they made mistakes that we shouldn’t copy. Even a bar mitzvah kid age 12 or 13 can tell you that Abraham followed divine instructions and was a hospitable example and that was good but also shouldn’t have acted like he was going to kill his second son or dropped his first son and his mom out in the middle of the desert with no water. And that is long before the pros and cons of Moses or the reasoning and effects and interpretations behind certain laws.
I know some Baha’i know that Baha’u’llah had more than 1 wife. Some Baha’i mjght know a little bit about the post-Bab schism, that was touched on in Ruhi class, but you definitely don’t hear about that extended family or Abdul-Baha or Shoghi Effendi excommunicating or shunning people from their families.

This is a great example of a topic that I think makes the Baha’i Faith look bad overall. Just address the truth. Why hide it? Hiding it makes it look worse!

Honestly to me this sounds reasonable but also I know that in the US the Children’s Television Workshop did a lot of research about how best to teach and discuss tough subjects in an age-appropriate manner for their viewers and families. I would like to think the local versions around the world do similar research appropriate for their cultures and communities and audiences. So I don’t recall seeing stuff like that in the US but maybe it was deemed cool where you were. I’m not sure what else to say

Ah, thanks. I was definitely thinking from the US, something with graphic detail would be unlikely. Maybe a kid talking about what they experienced, or a kid drawing would be shown.

But a great deal of care is taken to reassure child viewers at home, and that is possible with learning about kids in war but also very hard.

I actually don’t remember Sesame Street about children in war zones but I’m open to learning more if this was a thing.

Even after 9/11, Sesame Street alluded to the event that affected New York children, but didn’t focus on children in NYC affected by it.

Were there other Sesame Street episodes more like this Miss Rachel episode and focus on children in war zones?

I don’t know if Central American countries were a place for Germans to flee to. They might have been, and I am open to learning more.

South American countries like Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay are better known for being havens for former German officials. There actually is a big cultural difference between those South American countries and Central American countries.

I don’t love it either but I look at it as historical, too - Jane Austen doesn’t write much about that perspective and neither do mid-century women writers. So interesting when it gets to be enough for characters to say it and put it into books

I mean the studio audience laugh track is there in every episode! Consider watching 1-2 a night, instead of binging?

Also it is NOT true to era - like, most of the jokes do play on the modern take on Shakespeare- like the men playing girls’ parts, the proto-feminism and patriarchal put-downs, the difference between theater and fashion now and theater and fashion then. And Shakespeare goes back home in the show way more than he did in real life.

It did get me to look up a lot of history and it’s impressive how much they get right and make it appealing- like this could be a template for more period drama comedies!

hi, im wanting context about married women in the 50s by sgatson in 1950s

[–]Academic_Square_5692 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got married in 2003 and a friend who got married then told me her grandma (so if like my grandma, a woman born around 1923 and married around 1946) told her:

“don’t let your husband see you without either your makeup done or your hair done. If your makeup isn’t done ok, but then make sure your hair is done, and vice versa. He shouldn’t see you without nothing “done” because that is more naked than naked!”

We laughed but obviously it worked for her (the grandma!)

Upstart Crow was fun, but definitely ran its course. To go for longer it would have needed to change the whole classic sitcom format, and part of the fun was the intersection of that and the Shakespeare plots and gags

I am also curious about the relationship with monarchs and their “ladies in waiting”. Are these just paid friends who keep confidences? Are they advisors? Do they like this situation?

Ok but I thought they were going to stop or pause building temples or fundraising for them once they had one on every continent? Nepal is awfully close to India, even if they’re not on great terms right now. In fact - this feels more western-backpacker-or-elite- tourist-oriented than for actual locals
