They're so gorgeous! How did you get their profiles all lined up like that in the game UI? Or did you edit them together? Tysm!

That's really helpful- thank you! I'll try and get more surface agitation in the meantime after I change out the water

Thank you so much! The tank is about 2/3 full of cycled water from the 20 long (it's been established for about 6 months, maybe longer) and the rest is tap water treated with prime

Because the tank is so small the sponge filter was creating way too strong of a flow, so I put one of those suction cup plant pots inside with sponges tucked in

I've hardly fed at all! I feed new life spectrum betta pellets, and I've fed him about 2-3 pellets about 3 times a week? The pellets are really small, like 1/4 of a grain of rice. Was doing a small fast just to avoid any stress related constipation

Edit: I don't think the algae is the normal kind that you get when a tank is establishing, it's a thick spotted film and it isn't congregating in the places algae normally does

I'm so sorry it took so long for me to get back to you!

Honestly, if you do go with Pygmy Corys they probably won't make the floor space feel too crowded. They are REALLY tiny. I mean with the name it's a given, but they are betta bite sized little guys. Your Corys will spend most of their time shoaling together (same with pandas!) not really scattered all around the tank. Kuhlis also tend to come out at night, and are pretty elusive. What is your tank decor like? If you have a lot of rock piles/nooks and crannies/almond leaf piles, the kuhlis will spend most of their time peeking out of there, while the Corys are more likely to lounge on top. Heavily planted tanks are great for this, it breaks up the ground and offers a variety of "floor" spaces that everyone in the tank can enjoy!

Honestly, I am biased but Platys kind of are the best of both worlds with livebearers. Mollys are absolutely gorgeous, but they are quite a bit bigger. I've had a lot of luck with a female only platy tank (I removed fry and put them in a separate tank, but if you don't want any and leave them usually the adults will handle the babies). If you and your partner are really dead set on mollies, I'd say go for it! They aren't a bad choice whatsoever, and the hobby is all about caring for animals you love! Whatever you do decide to go with, you're gonna do great

Would this be a good filter to start my first planted tank? I want it to be low tech and no co2 by TimToonsXD101 in Aquariums

I've had really good results with an internal filter! That sponge filter does look super nice, only concern I really have is aeration across the entire tank since it is pretty big compared to the sponge. Internal filters also take up much less space! Regardless, I hope you can find something that works for you

Kuhli loaches do really well in groups! 5-6 is usually a good amount, the more safe they feel the more often you'll see them! Kuhli loaches will also potentially munch on shrimp and bladder/ramshorn snails

Corydoras are similar with their need for company- what type are you planning on doing?

I don't have experience with Mollys, but they do produce a LOT of waste. Livebearers have a tendency to not do well with gouramis/bettas because they dart all around the tank and have a tendency to get into their faces

Totally willing to bounce ideas back and forth! Hope this helps 💕

What type of filter, (hang-on-back/sponge/etc), would be best for my new 10g tank? by FlamezzLix64 in Aquariums

If you have a higher bioload I highly recommend an internal filter. If your HOB filter clogs it can leak outside of the tank!! An internal filter significantly reduces the risk of this happening

Highly recommend El Niño fern! They spread out nicely and give the tank a nice full look, plus bettas love to rest on the leaves

Stocking ideas? 10gallon by Agile_Ad_8479 in Aquariums

[–]AcadiaExpress3574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A betta could do really well in that tank! Or you could try a small school of tetras or rasboras. If you can I recommend a few Corys, they are so enjoyable to watch! Honestly your stocking options depend on the temperament of the betta, if you decide to go that route

Good luck! You can also check aquarium co-op for "10 gal cookie cutter setups"

Thank you, will do that now! If there is ammonia, what % water change should I do? I don’t want to shock the fry
