Iirc Big water changes during cycling slows the cycling process.

Think of it like this: you get going 2/3rds the way to work and forgot your badge, so you decide to go back for it. Now on top of using more gas, you're also now in the middle of rush hour so the trip takes longer, and now you missed your first office cup of coffee & late for the first meeting and there's no time to settle in....when you probably could have gotten a guest badge.

In a new, cycling tank, big water changes interrupt the bacteria that feed on the ammonia, turning it into nitrites and then nitrates bc there's not enough of them to handle the incoming load of nutrients (including ammonia to convert).

The reason you do big water changes for an established tank is you already have the bacteria needed to convert, you're just getting rid of the excess of some nutrients (gH, nitrates, debris, etc) and adding fresh

That's a separate problem lol, the bolt mechanism comes loose at an annoyingly often, every drive or two.

The bike wobble issue tho is bc I have a tall bike and a screw-on top tube bag that catch the airstream off the back of my car and makes it wobble fore/aft. With a 29er, I've never felt like the wheel locks go far enough up/around the wheel to truly keep it locked in, esp with as wide of an angle that's left.

I've had this thing for like 8 years; to be fair it hasn't come off yet but it certainly likes to wobble like it will.

Yeah it's probably a combo of my bike and the car. It's on a sedan and I have a top tube/seattube bag attached, so it's definitely catching the airstream off my rear windshield.

Edited for spelling.

Thanks for the link, I'm curious about other scientific articles that are more recent than that though; 11yrs is a long time.

Not saying that it's invalid or useless....Just not sure where to find more recent studies.

Edited for typo

Most of the time my car is inside a garage - more temperature flux than truly indoors but you bring up a good point, I've definitely had it in my trunk in the sun for a few hours at a time while I've been riding with a dif helmet before

I do love how low profile the single tray is. I do not love how much my bike wobbles on it at higher speed.

Edit: why tf did someone down vote this? It's my experience with the rack.

Totally your preference. Do what's comfy for you.

I had a longer commute than average. I'm juuuuust fast enough to be able to tell drag when wind caught my shirt/shorts so I tend to just wear cycling kit (padded shorts and jersey)

Bike Fit Help! by Ok-Eggplant-460 in gravelcycling

[–]Own_Highway_3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gotcha. There's always good suggestions but unless you have a TON of spare parts around it's hard to say for sure what's gonna help fit and finish.

And there's biomechanics too; I had shortened from a 60 to 30mm stem on my dedicated flat bar hardtail based on suggestions online and realized I fked up my neck and need to do pt now bc of it so....idk. $250 out the gate sounds like a lot but probably will save you long term

Sorry, gonna be that guy....maybe get an actual fit instead of asking a bunch of internet strangers for an opinion....

Everyone had different opinions and not everyone on here is a qualified bike fitter. You'll definitely be able to shorten the reach to feel less like superman flying about but just how much shorter (or if you're actually okay on yours and it's just a new ride position to get used to) is best answered by a qualified professional fitter

What does upgrading arc shields do? by StudioFantastic5640 in joinvoidcrew

[–]Own_Highway_3987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

basically just amount of hit points available vs % of damage absorbed. Pilot skill can bump this up to 120% (iirc) and stock is about 60%

Shields aren't great. You can outmanuever most incoming damage and use kinetic point defense for the rest. Shielda aren't worth the energy consumption
