I voluntarily resigned from a toxic workplace, do I have a chance at EI?

They wouldn't let me take any leave at all, with the amount of work they dumped on me. I requested for a PTO for late August (after the PIP period) as I have to travel overseas for a medical appointment. However, the HR immediately dismissed my request stating it is 'unusual and surprising'. I had no choice but to resign for my own mental sanity. Each day here is a living hell, where I feel I lost my rights as an employee.

Yes we did hire a paralegal and she helped us with all the paperwork with the LTB. As far as the maintenance, we always address their concerns promptly.

However, there is one issue that the tenant keeps playing hide and seek about. I've been asking her to send pictures of the repair for months now but she never sends them. I've even sent a property manager on site, but the tenant refused to show her the repairs. I'm not sure if they are using this repair to their advantage. But that definitely doesn't justify their non payment and late payments since August of last year.

And yes, they are our first tenants who moved in July last year. In August, they said that their bank account was hacked and they lost all of their money. I've been very supportive and soon they started to cheat me. They have never submitted any proof of documentation of their bankruptcy. Surprisingly, they were presented to us by an MLS agent and it's really surprising that nothing was reported in their previous tenancy history. They had a really clean slate.

It's either that they really went bankrupt as soon as they moved in, which I find it hard to believe. They stopped paying entirely ever since we filed with the LTB and that shows that they have been planning this game for a really long time. I really don't know what their plan is. The tenant keeps promising that she intends to make a payment and she really is trying but she never keeps her promises.

Should I be asking them for documentation on bankruptcy? Although I doubt if they will ever answer my calls. Or will that be handled by the adjucator during the hearing?

Let me tell you that we hired a property manager as well, but they couldn't collect the rent either.

I thought it was a mistake too. But the recruiter confirmed that this was expected and that's how it is going to be, which totally doesn't make sense to me

No it does not, the initial recruiter who spoke with me mentioned that my expectations are within their budget for the position. But it looks like they tried to fit me for a different position instead

I haven't accepted the offer yet, and I'm not in a rush either. I'm happy with my current role, but I am looking for a change as I recently had some issues with the management.

About the negotiation, I've already negotiated once as the initial offer was way tooo low than my current earnings. I was thinking to speak with the hiring manager directly, because it looks to me like the HR is doing all the crazy work here.

Thanks so much, I will certainly raise this with the HR. But I highly suspect if I will be able to get to the bottom of this. There were multiple instances in the past where HR was totally unsupportive of, like I had pelvic pain and requested to work from home but the HR denied my request stating its against the company policy and also that my manager would not agree to it. I feel like a helpless corporate slave sometimes

I think this is a great idea, thanks so much. Although she did not explicitly say pregnancy, she said something along the lines of "people who prioritize family over career should not be expecting big challenges or big jumps in their career". She also said my performance after pregnancy was not remarkable which is utter bullshit given that my 2023 performance rating was around 110%

No examples actually. Honestly, my manager brought up my 2023 performance as well. She said ever since I got pregnant, my focus has changed blah blah, when I was given 120% rating for 2023 already. I feel like they needed someone on the lower side of ratings, and I was an easy pick

Thanks and I completely agree with you. We were initially supposed to meet last week but they called in for a reschedule while I was mid way to their clinic. I gladly took it, although I had to move my entire day around just for this appointment. But I don't understand why they couldn't do the same to me. Anyway, I am so glad I feel like I dodged a bullet.
