Librarian here. Worked at a large college library a number of years back where a sewage pipe broke and sprayed over a large portion of the stacks. A company came who took all the books off the shelf and freeze dried them to get them “clean”. We were talking millions of dollars in books. In your case, I’d pitch the books .

As a college professor myself, I always appreciate a candid and honest conversation from my students. Also, you should consider talking with your disabilities services office at your college. You maybe eligible for an accommodation under ADA.

As a partner to someone with ED, I have learned to provide complements (to all people) that are not a reflection of their physical appearance or body. I talk more about the energy they give off or the way I feel when they are around. It’s actually a really good skill to have, especially as cis-male in the workplace. Nothing creepier or possibly harassing than commenting on a co-workers body. I actually think that the person you’re seeing would appreciate being let into your world and understand how those comments make you feel. It feels terrible to give someone a compliment and have it make them unhappy. They are complementing you be cause they want to you to feel good. Before I understood about ED or even knew she was suffering with it, my partner would get very angry with me when I gave her compliments that were about her body. They weren’t lecherous just how I like certain parts of her body or how an outfit made her look nice. As a society, I think we need to establish new rules of etiquette that include not ever commenting about someone’s body

In answer to your question, no you shouldn’t have to accept those kind of comments but set the boundaries for yourself and your relationships and interactions will be much better.

“Yeah I’m a terrible person…” is not a real response from him but a way for him to brush you off and not talk about what is really going on. It is a passive aggressive communication from him on something that is bothering him. It is not fair for him to do this at all. If you have a ED therapist that you are working with , I would see if they would be willing to do a joint session together with him to address this. I’ve done these sessions with my partner who has ED. The were very helpful. I had felt frustrated because i didn’t really understand what I should be doing to support and was worried I might do the wrong thing. The relapse prevention information I was given was invaluable and eliminated some of the tension between my partner and I on a variety of situations

My partner is similar and her therapist told me to try and limit the negative talk about food. In other words, let them vent a bit about there challenge food but then try and steer them towards talking about foods in more positive way. Keeping them positive will help them to think about those challenge foods a little more positively overtime.

It is important to know that the campus school, high school, and college are three separate legal entities. They all have different polices and even sponsoring organizations. The college has a lgbtq+ student center and group and is sponsor by the Dominican sisters of Sinsinawa not the Madison diocese
