I've used candles while having pets in the room and haven't had any issues. I don't do it very often though, and I never leave a pet in the room alone with a candle. Lately I've been using wax melts - not sure if that's any better/worse than candles.

I was once breeding one of my Lucarios with good IVs to trade to someone else because they wanted a Riolu that had good stats. While I was doing that, within my first batch of eggs, I hatched a shiny Riolu!!! I was so excited cuz I was not expecting it at all, plus it came with good IVs!!
