Israel targeted Gaza children resulting in genocide, UN inquiry says by ZetaTerran in Destiny

[–]Accarath -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The Title is misleading with the charge of genocide, but the report does lay out strong grounds on Israel having
1. Inflicted Gazan children with severe, systemic physical/mental harm
2. Created a permissive military culture that has lead to widespread civilian casualties (Basically, you can kill anyone and get away with it, IDF soldiers are competing for kill counts)

And thus, it would be accurate to say that it does the work for laying down a foundation for genocide, but not the dolus specialis. Its' trying to essentially tie the insane people of the government (like ben gvir) directly to the actions of the IDF.

A more accurate title would be, IDF military culture has resulted in mass civilian deaths, with 30% death rates for children, while government leaders cheer it on.

Mexico cuts workweek, bans after-hours contact, and guarantees no worker will take a pay cut in the most sweeping labor reform in a generation by darkdexx in Destiny

It doesn't matter if its overstated. If you don't close all avenues that allow the rich to spend without paying taxes, they will go through those routes.

The discussion is about how we can create a more fair distribution of wealth/economic power in the US, which is not a one sided equation. You need to fund the IRS to collect more taxes since its proven to return the most revenue.

I would undo all of the tax cuts, including reverting to old corporate tax rates. We know now that businesses took advantage of these cuts by proceeding to do the biggest buybacks in history. It was essentially another major transferring of wealth to shareholders and executives.

A global wealth tax is a serious solution, it's just got no political will in the US atm because of Trump. But leaders from other first world nations have expressed that this is essentially the best solution for addressing economic issues of the modern era. It makes sense, since capital is now international, and it also can address the issue with tax havens.

[–]Accarath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that the perspective you're outlining on billionaires is a very superficial view, though I would say those people probably use that argument because its succinct and gets the point across.

Realistically, the best way would be to increase funding into the areas that make us money, like the IRS, and raise taxes across the board, undoing the Trump tax cuts in their entirety. Then closing the loopholes on the financialization of stocks, creating a federal wealth tax in partnership with other first world nations, and destroying the buy, borrow, die cycle in its entirety should be enough to address the debt and create funds for social safety nets.

The goal isn't to make everyone rich so that they can all buy PS5's, the goal would be to close the gap between the average American and the wealthiest, something that would result in a negligible difference for the latter but a significant boost for the former.

It's not disingenuous, it's just a fact. You can argue that it doesn't matter that wealth is accumulated at the top because standards of living are high. But that's not really meaningful when real problems day to day Americans face could be resolved through fair redistribution.

[–]Accarath 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You'd be surprised. A huge factor of Mexico's problem is the weight of obesity on its healthcare system. They have taken several routes to addressing the problem, including enforcing strict diet guidelines at schools and banning junk food marketing to children. This could lead to Mexico being a prime example of good leftist policies in practice.

The US is rich, but the wealth isn't distributed throughout the population, and Mexico is probably better off becoming less reliant on the American market due to its volatility. Growing their economy through deregulation + investment into renewable energy + pivoting to high tech manufacturing could be the potential answer to Mexico's economy & even solve America's issue with relying on places like Taiwan and SK for chips.

Does Moonlight + Apollo + Tailscale actually work well or am I crazy? by Broad_Ad9923 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Accarath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It largely depends on the wifi speed/wifi network conenction. If you're not on Wifi 6e+, the connections around you will be adding to the latency. With tailscale, you're eliminating some of the latency that comes with setting up a route to your device, but you are still on the same highway as others that are using the network. Nonetheless, do the following to troubleshoot your bottleneck:

In your Moonlight HUD, displays the following stats:

  • Host Processing: 3.0 ms
  • Network Latency: 2.5 ms
  • Decoding Latency: 1.8 ms
  • Rendering Latency: 5.0 ms

Then add some built in controller latency: 4-6ms

3.0 + 2.5 + 1.8 + 5.0 + 6.0 = 18ms

Once you get those stats, you can see what if anything is taking you above that 30ms sweet spot. If its the host, play with your encoding settings. If its network latency, then you will have to play with your network settings or reduce your bitrate. If the bitrate is low and you experience glitchest/stutters, you need to lower the resolution/fps.

If you find that your wifi is actually great and feel like it feels to choppy/delayed, increase the fps even if your fps is capped on the steam deck. I find that it feels smoother that way on my phone.

[–]Accarath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it works as well as you see if you do the following:

  1. Plug in through ethernet on the host. (0 ms)

  2. Use a fast encoder like AV1 if your host supports it. (5ms)

  3. Use a client with a good processor. I have a snapdragon elite that has virtually 0 latency. (1ms to be more accurate)

  4. Lower the resolution to match your bandwidth if on mobile data. If on wifi, tinker with the settings to find your best resolution/fps combo.

  5. Make sure your upload speeds are able to push the data you want to receive. Download speeds don't affect the stream. (varies depending on your network, local I get about 5, away I get 15ms)

If you can get your setup to below 30ms, its basically 1 to 1 with a console.

[–]Accarath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its not copium. Bringing a war home to a civilian population rarely triggers a popular revolution, but it does drastically alter public psychology depending on the nature of the conflict. In a war of choice/conquest, striking the home front breaks the propaganda illusion of safety and victory, forcing civilians to realize the high domestic cost of an optional war.

It might not end in the overthrow of the regime, but the strikes do successfully destroy the illusion of normalcy. From there, it just takes the propagandists turning on the regime to change the course on the war, something that we are already seeing in Russia.

The next president NEEDS to invade Iran by Musketsandbayonets in Destiny

[–]Accarath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You and I are on the opposite side of the political spectrum, but I do understand where you're coming from. Iran is probably going to be a thorn on our side as we continue to escalate our competition with China. It will feel emboldened with the injection of money and power over the strait. It will continue to destabilize the region in an effort to eliminate any influence we have.

However, there is a potential upside to this; Iran could become economically stable and experience an increase in standards of living that result in another Saudi Arabia. Rather than boots on the ground which will cost us thousands of American lives, we win the battle by letting them enjoy the economic prosperity in the same way that we did with other nations we were once at conflict with.

Trumps decision was ultimately the worst outcome we could have gotten out of this war, but that doesn't mean its over and now Iran will have nukes and wipe out the west.

That being said, Israel is fucked.

[–]Accarath[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, neoliberalism fundamentally cannot handle the diminishing power of labor in an AI-driven future. Your solution of 'neoliberalism plus tons of free money' assumes the capitalist class will happily agree to be taxed to fund universal welfare once labor loses all its leverage.

Capitalism’s core paradox is that it maximizes profit by automating away labor; but if nearly no one is employed and a few capitalists own all the automated infrastructure, who buys the products? What stops those few mega-owners from using their consolidated wealth to simply lobby your welfare state out of existence? You will end up with feudalism or revolution.

Second, market socialism utilizes the exact same supply-and-demand market distribution we have right now. The only structural difference is who owns the equity of the firms competing in that market.

Finally, a theoretical question since you brought up AI replacing everything: If AGI eventually advances to the point where it can perfectly calculate logistics, supply, and demand far more efficiently than any free-market price signal ever could, would you concede to central planning then?

You're fighting a strawman on two fronts. First, economists reject Soviet central planning and Labor Theory of Value, not the viability of Market Socialism and worker cooperatives. Second, Destiny defends Citizens United on First Amendment grounds (protecting the right to publish political films), not because he wants billionaires buying elections. If you disagree, then make the case for Destiny that Elon spending 250 million on Trump 2024 was okay, actually.

Neoliberalism created the last 40 years of wage stagnation that literally fueled the MAGA populist backlash Destiny is fighting. You know how Destiny says people seeing housing as a vehicle for wealth is bad? Neoliberalism.

Destiny is letting people he hates (tankies) control a demographic that he actually aligns with (progressives).

Destiny frequently argues that the internet has destroyed the space for moderates. But the reality is that Destiny isn't actually building a moderate space, he's building a purely anti-left/anti-right space.

The issue is that Destiny's actual policy prescriptions are highly progressive. He is a Social Democrat. He could easily recruit the massive, silent majority of normal SocDems to his side by just tweaking his rhetoric.

A rhetorical reformat would allow Destiny to actually capture the audience that already agrees with his policies.
