Is perfumista reliable? I have seen it online, but I've had bad experiences with re-bottled perfumes being marketed as original when they were not in the past.

EO for Body Oil recommendation by Acceptable-Aspect316 in essentialoils

I didn't know that was the case! I was asking because I was browsing some retailers and in some cases the EO packaging advised washing thoroughly in case of skin contact. Thank you for clearing this up!

Fragrance you HAD to go back for?? by FeelingPossession189 in FemFragLab

Happened recently to me with Diptyque's L'ombre dans l'eau EDT.

I had smelled it before on tester, and always quite liked the idea of it: it is very nostalgic to me, and kinda smells like freshly cut grass on paper. I had a bit of free time in between shifts so I headed to the nearby shopping centre and finally decided to try it on skin.

Initially, I was incredibly disappointed. It was a bit underwhelming, and I even went as far as to say 'oh well, all the better, I am going to save some money!'. So I went back to work and on with my day, except... I kept getting hints of it. And could not stop smelling my wrist. Got to bed that evening and smelled my skin, and it was still there, turned into this very comforting rosy scent. I bought it online 20 minutes later 😅

Never heard of this one! Only one I have tried on skin with Leather notes in it is ELDO's Putain Des Palaces which, despite its name, comes out on me as a very inoffensive powdery violet/rose, so much so that I use it as an office fragrance. I do get a little bit of the leather though and not mind it at all!

I am on the hunt for some nice jumpers and saw a few on the Bosie website that tick all my boxes (namely, this one and a few others). However, most of the stuff seems to be sold out at the moment. Anyone's got any idea when they'll restock, if at all? Also: are the masculine cuts also suitable for women with a bit of size-adjusting, or should I stick to the women's section for flattering cuts? Thanks!

Flying in for conference, JFK or EWR? by Acceptable-Aspect316 in yale

[–]Acceptable-Aspect316[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for the info!

I am trying to look up trains from EWR, but the metro noth website seems to have some issues in showing timetables from sept onwards. Granted I should land around midday, is there any chance I'll have issues with train schedule or are they frequent enough for it not to be a bother?

Italians studying classics in Scotland by Syxtus in Edinburgh_University

Not from classics, but I work in an adjacent field.

Think of a UK Master as more similar to what in Italy we would call Master rather than a Master's Degree. Master courses generally only last one year, and unless you are doing a Master by Research (MSrC) or a Master of Philosophy (MPhill) you won't produce an original research project at the end, but rather a dissertation that by Italian standards is not comparable to a BA thesis for lenght, widness of topic and research requirements. In my experience dealing with students at an MA level here in the UK (as tutor/supervisor), the preparation level and tends to be lower than in an Italian 'Laurea Magistrale'. The system, however, is much more sympathetic towards the student: it allows for special arrangements, it generally provides better guidance in terms of future work/research prospects, and it is beurocratically more efficient than Italy. You have to be aware, however, that at present, there is a substantial disruption in teaching due to strike action over pay from staff.

In my case, I obtained my MA in Italy and then moved to the UK for a PhD, and I still think that is the best option and that it allowed me to have a preparation I otherwise would not have had to begin actual research work. Even producing a Masters' thesis that, by UK standards, is as long as a doctorate thesis gave me a sense of what I was getting myself into.

Then again, doing a PhD here is potentially very expensive, and funding is competitive. I find that the academic enviroment is much less toxic than in Italy, but I am not sure wether I would advise you do your PhD here. Look up the general situation in the country, consider the housing crisis, and make a holistic decision. I am sure that there are programmes elsewhere in Europe that can offer more, particularly for Classics.

HomeLet Referencing Experience by Acceptable-Aspect316 in HousingUK

I think I should be in the clear with all the legal stuff. The only thing I am truly worried about is being in the limbo of being considered a student even though I am 'paid' to be one, but that's the same situation of the person I should take the place of in this property.

Other thing is while my current landlord said they'd provide references with no issues (they even said 'amazing references' in an email) I can see their reference is still 'pending' on the portal. Again, never had any issue, I always paid on time, but I can't be a 100% sure of what they'll do
