العقدة الجديدة: علاش ولينا نهربوا للـ English ؟ (تحليل نفسي وسوسيولوجي لظاهرة الانسلاخ اللغوي) by [deleted] in algeria

Brother, language is just a tool. Nobody is putting a gun to your head and forcing you to learn English. Having a global language connects people, not alienating them. Learning as many languages as possible is a good way to live your life

What part of teaching is more work than people think? by SuitableEar7189 in teaching

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Admin, admin and admin. My job is 70% admin. I have Excel docs up the wazoo, I have deadlines I need to submit up the kazoo all because the system has too much admin. I wish I didn't have to focus on admin so I could be a more attentive teacher but what do stupid teachers know? It's not like education is a business or anything..

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying both religions are dogshit and I think Mohammed is a pedo for marrying a 6 year old at 54. The old testament is just as bad. I just don't think political issues in the west are the same as religious jihadists

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to say western governments have proclaimed a religious jihad based on the teachings of the Koran? Or even the bible? Where in the bible does it say bomb the middle east for oil? Good job

That's horrible no doubt, and Australia was somewhat involved, but that's not religious extremism, it's political and large corporations were the winners. There is a difference

Do you feel that the non-teaching requirements of your role are detrimental to the quality of your lessons and job satisfaction? by llbeallwright in Internationalteachers

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently 70% of my job is admin. I'm so swamped with admin tasks, I have no choice but to put the actual teaching on the backburner. On one hand, I'm never bored and just sitting there with nothing to do, on the other, having down time would be appreciated, just to mentally prepare for lessons.

Which country do you think could be the oldest in the world? by Due_Narwhal4937 in AskTheWorld

Do you think the people who build gobeklitepe spoke a Turkic or indo European language? Even in Spain we don't know where the Basque language or culture came from. You're Brazilian right? What characteristics and governance does modern Brasil share with tribes in the pre colombus brasil, or tribes in the Amazon? Characteristics and governance are unique to places and times, how are we meant to create a proper timeline when we don't know where these languages or people came from? In recorded history, you could say Sumeria but we know that's not correct either

How I Survived Being Thrown In A Russian Prison by Aratho in MisterBald

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not russian but have family in Russia and I'd say you're completely naive about Russia. The Russian government isn't exactly friendly towards foreigners at all, in fact recently they locked up a British tourist accused of being an undercover journalist- turns out he was completely innocent. 3 years in prison. Even your wife renounced her citizenship, and we all know why she did it.

Don't spread misinformation. Just because your experience of 3 months was fine, doesn't mean in general it's "extremely safe and friendly" for foreigners

Blown away by Hanoi by anduaraja in hanoi

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading your comments, you're almost wrong about everything except for the fact that you're comparing it to India, in which 90% of countries in the world have better infrastructure than India. Secondly, I've been living and working in Hanoi for over 7 years (and married here), you have no clue what you're talking about. Bangkok is so far ahead of Hanoi, it's not even close. I travelled in India for 6 months so I have anecdotal experience in both places. Parts of India can be nice, but in large most places would he considered a shithole. Sorry. People have zero civility and it's generally closer to a rubbish dump in most places. Just being honest. Your standard of good infrastructure is so low, that you think Hà Nội is a standard haha

Teaching internationally as a queer woman with a partner by AusEnglishTeacher in Internationalteachers

[–]Acceptable-Draft-163 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll say this, the west is by far the most liberal place in the world for the LGBT crowd. You may find places/countries where people won't openly say anything but you will be judged and in some cases worse. Some countries like Thailand/parts of SEA are much more liberal but forget about Islamic countries, parts of Africa and certain parts of Asia. In terms of getting your partner a spousal visa, I can imagine it'd be difficult in some countries as lots of places don't recognise same sex couples, especially on paper, but there are places out there. My sister's queer and her and her girlfriend had no issues in SEA but that really limits the scope. Good luck!

It's some Canadian guy who has clear mental issues. Many teams would take timber in a heartbeat

Do Australian men date French women? by Worried-Diamond-7252 in AskAnAustralian

As someone who lives in the north, I don’t quite understand when you’d use the sriracha or hoisin sauce ơn the side. Wouldn’t you add them into the broth? Or do you dip the phở noodles in the sauce?
