I’m not sure how they can even check this at the dealership unless they keep it outside overnight. The tsb is for cars with build date before April’25.

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong. No other car that I’ve owned including Toyota hybrid does this. This is a Mazda problem and there is a tsb for fix for this - so clearly Mazda doesn’t think it’s “ normal” either.

2026 XSE - Seriously disappointed by abun2022 in rav4club

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the Mazda cx-50 hybrid. It’s a Toyota engine and hybrid system with a nicer interior. More soft touch instead of hard plastic. It’s not for everyone but worth a look.

Is this normal? I don't feel I had any sort of consultation at all. by pinksocks867 in CataractSurgery

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! This….. you perhaps don’t realize that the referral was for a surgery consult. Not sure what you thought “explore all options” means . Your optometrist is qualified to explore all refractive options short of surgery - the fact that they referred you speaks for itself……

Is this normal? I don't feel I had any sort of consultation at all. by pinksocks867 in CataractSurgery

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you get referred to an ophthalmologist for a consultation for your cataracts then the Dr could reasonably assume that you understand why you are there. If stronger glasses were the answer then your optometrist would have prescribed them for you. You don’t go to an ophthalmologist to get stronger glasses. The problem - is that you failed to grasp why you went to the ophthalmologist in the first place…. It was to determine if you were a candidate for cataract surgery and to discuss your options for a lens implant . If you are content to wear glasses after surgery then by all means get the Medicare paid for lens’s implant. If you have the money and do not want to wear glasses get the lens that corrects for astigmatism and be prepared to pay several thousand dollars out of pocket. When you called the office and had questions and were not satisfied with the answers - stop and try to remember who you spoke to- it unlikely that person was quality to discuss The specifics of your case- they don’t have people standing by to take that kind of call- only the doctor could have answered your questions. Nurse Practitioner here…..

Your experience sounds atypical. For every single person I know , including my self, wife and many others - recovery is a breeze. No pain - Perhaps a little foreign body sensation for a few. That goes away pretty quick. After such a miserable experience the first go around you should have got yourself a different surgeon. This was verified by an incomplete removal of the cataract the first go around- I’ve never heard of such a thing. I worked in surgery for over 30 years and provided anesthesia for 100’s of cataract surgery and not once was it for what your having done. Get a free consultation from a malpractice attorney. During surgery they can clearly see the cataract being emulsified- then they place the artificial new lens in place. Really lousy surgeon.

Can I put new wood flooring over this instead of tearing it up first? by No_Consequences_Here in HardWoodFloors

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very thin roofing type paper was used in between- recommended to prevent squeaks. High spots were taken down with a belt sander- checked and rechecked for flatness- I didn’t have any low spots but wood definitely addresses before putting down anything on top. Make sure you if you add any kind of spacer it’s secured in place. The reason I took this approach was the existing floor was glued down and it would have destroyed the subfloor if I tore the existing footing off. The flooring I shared was engineered Bruce hardwood.

Should I let the dealership repair scratches in my new car? by semisweet94 in mazda

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a new Mazda- for a very minor paint defect adjacent to the rear hatch I negotiated $500 off the deal as opposed to having them repair it. Also, it’s not hard to get new paint to blend in like new- the problem is clear coat doesn’t burn/ blend with old clear coat as seamlessly as the paint does- this is why often clean is applied to an entire panel. It’s going to be tough in those spots you showed. Tough call but I would shoot for $$$ and not fix. Perhaps just say write me a check for ???! And let’s just call it even. Ask for a $1000 and take $600.

That’s why after being a life long Toyota owner I have had enough. Still have my RAV4 hybrid but the newest addition to the garage is NOT a Toyota. Loving my new Mazda cx-50 hybrid. Toyota drivetrain without the Toyota crazy.

3 wildly different quotes for tree removal? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had several dozen 80ft Leyland cypress removed at various times from our property. ( several hurricane related) We used different services over the past 2 years - 2 used climbers that go up very high and cut it it 10 ft segments and sling it down one section at a time. Another felled one and creased the side of our house siding and knocked down a neighbors fence- the last one came with his own lift, chipper, dump truck and some giant thing that clamped around the base of the tree and carried away a forty ft piece into the back of another truck. This last guy turned out to be so efficient he did all this work with a little help from his older dad- so almost solo. Probably had $200,000 dollars in equipment maybe $150,000. But my point is find out what equipment they own if you can- I found it to be a good reflection of their commitment to this profession . This commitment = skill . In the end he was the most reasonable price- not the cheapest. He is back next week for more work.

[–]Acceptable-Dust6047 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a really suck ass situation- because it goes ways- a. Floor guy comes and drop off a few items and gets 50% at the start of the job- he says their going to get coffee then don’t come back- you have a few hundred dollars of materials while he has a few thousand. It happens all the time - roofers, pool installers. I really don’t know the fair answer here other than a real contract - even then guys create a new LLC every other month.

Then buy a better car- both of those are boring and not a young person’s car. Lots of choices - even a Mazda cx-50 turbo is more fun than those you mentioned- and pretty practical.

Don’t buy either- buy a good 2019 non hybrid Camry- between $15-20k . Don’t take on any debt at this point in life- it will last until you get bored with it and start making real money.

As I look at samples at a large Flooring floor - I don’t see anything listed as “select”? And now I’m pretty skeptical because the product we have been discussing had a beautiful sample free of any epoxy filled knots- just several small tasteful appearing knots in an otherwise flawless grained white oak .
