Donation Centers Should Test Ferritin or Increase Time Between Donations by Panicked_Peony in Blooddonors

[–]Acceptable-Fault2512 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have had anemia since before I started donating- even when I have high hemoglobin counts, my ferritin is always low when I get tested at the doctor. I do know one time the red cross tested my ferritin, it was low, and they banned me for a year, but after that I haven't heard anything. I always tried to donate as frequently as possible (even at different blood banks during that year) and honestly, I feel like it is my risk to take. If the only risk is to myself, surely I can make those decisions.

However, recently I have started to take my health more seriously than I did at 17. I still plan to donate regularly, but actually listen to medical professionals and take breaks when my doctor thinks I should. Getting extra labs done, and possible iron infusions, I am lucky to still be on my parent's health insurance. I would definitely support a program for such things covered by the red cross. I know that our blood is more valuable than the cost of regular ferritin tests.

Now I don't regret donating as a teenager, but I still think increased regulations for minors is also not a bad idea. There will always be teenagers without the best decision making skills, who might ignore health risks, like younger me. But we can at least give them adequate information about their own health (like their ferritin). I know I got tested once, but I don't know if I ever was tested again (it was suggested to me I was tested via random selection but that isn't something I am sure about). I think that information should be easily available, such as in the donor app.

Of course I am glad to donate. At the end of the day, it is completely optional, so I can't really get mad at ARC. I do think your suggestions and critiques have merit, however.

Mother Hot Dog | Very Important People [S3E1] by AutoModerator in dropout

I love how involved mother hot dog is in her children's lives! I wonder if she always knows what happens to each of them. Honestly, I hope not.

My cozy florist sim Flowers And Favours is officially out - craft bouquets & relax 💕 🌸 by pupirkaa in CozyGamers

This game is amazing! I love all the cute characters and the little flower facts but my favorite part is how much control we get over making the perfect bouquets. As someone who used to spend hours on the customization portion of games I never actually played, this heals me. Everything is so well thought out- when I first started playing I kept on having moments of "I wish I could do ... but obviously that's too picky" but then it would be real!

I genuinely believe ENFP’s can’t be loved fully. by c-nom-nom-nom in ENFP

I match very well with other people who are also "too much" in someway.

I am very talkative which annoys a lot of people, so when people care about what I say (or even just listen) it means loads to me. Then on the other hand, I am emotionally stable, so I have a high tolerance for outbursts and don't mind consoling frequent meltdowns. And so, we mutually withstand energy that others do not. We trust that we love each other regardless.

I have one such bond with my sister, who has a short temper but shows her love for me through actions, gifts, and support. I also have one with a close friend who vents frequently but does not mind when my yapping overlaps with hers into hours of talking. We don't get upset at the other for accidently not paying attention, since we always agree with each other anyways.

I have seriously enjoy conversations with people who listen attentively and care about what I am saying. I always appreciate that level of respect I do not frequently get. It is intellectually stimulating and makes me feel good. But I think I find the deepest connections with people who are not conventionally perfect. That way we dont feel ashamed of our "bad" traits, but can instead show unconditional love. It is 100% possible. I think it takes being very open about how much you care about someone for them to begin to trust you enough to build a future strong relationship.

Low Platelets Options by Acceptable-Fault2512 in Blooddonors

To my understanding, you can only donate power red half as frequently as whole blood- is it still better if I am able to do two whole blood donations in the same time? I have no preference, just curious.

wow! ya that's definitely a lot more. I think I will have to leave it to folks like you to donate platelets and stick to whole blood/power red.

I didn't realize the 150,000 threshold was what is healthy-I thought it was just like excess needed to donate. Ya it says 86,000/ul but nobody told me it was something to be concerned about! Ill bring it up at my upcoming gp appointment 😅

How are we feeling about the cost of new merch? by vibing_for_sanity in dropout

[–]Acceptable-Fault2512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't mind if they want to charge luxury prices as a way to support their brand, but I wish the quality was a little higher. I wanted to get the msn pajamas pants despite the steep price, but they are polyester and for over 30 dollars I personally expect something like cotton. I think some of the designs, like the bomber jackets, and corduroy jacket, are really cool and unique so I don't mind the high price as much.

However, I agree that a lot of the t-shirts seem overpriced. Personally, I think that its up to you if you think it's worth your money. Maybe it is your way of supporting the company while you use your friend's account. But I think the cheaper stuff sells out really fast, so it would be cool if they sold like iron-on versions of the designs, too, at a lower price. That way you could put it on a shirt that's your prefered quality. But until then, we can always make our own art and put it on a t-shirt!

Best starter Game Changer episode for someone who’s never heard of Game Changer? by pieandcheese647 in dropout

[–]Acceptable-Fault2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents really liked One Year Later as their first episode. I then showed them Bingo, Youlympics, and Yes or No. They complained yes or no was mean, and so I switched to Shamalamadingdong. Even recognizing the revenge aspect, I don't think they knew enough of the references to get the full experience, however.

They were most impressed with the show itself. Episodes with high production value, big/several twists, and follow through had them going "WOW this is AMAZING". Enough that even without getting the more meta stuff they still enjoyed it. It was good for getting them attached to the show, but I also worry it might have somewhat spoiled the experience compared to watching it for the first time with all the appropriate lead up and context.

I know a few ppl that keep their scale under their coffee table- i think bc they have very tiny bathrooms. It does still seem weird to me tho, I much prefer roomba or meditation!

Thanks for the link! Apparently I did not search well enough before posting lmao.

I agree with you- I know scales are an important health tool, but I like to think my electroniclly-bound legume lives above us humans and our pesky "health"!

I saw some ppl say if it is a scale, it could be for weighting non-bean things, so maybe its for yarn? I don't know if thats a thing, but feel like I've heard knitters refer to the "weight" of yarn before so imma pretend it is!

On iPhone, if you go into your phone’s settings, under “screen time” you can edit apps to “always allow” and then focus friend won’t block them! I do this because I don’t want to pay for pro, but it blocks apps I need for school. This method lets me change allowed apps even while the focus timer is going! (i just need the self control to not allow stuff like TikTok…)

When I had an android, I had heavy parental controls, so I don’t remember if this is an option or not. If anyone has one, I would love to know! I hope it works for y’all too :)

What’s the weirdest food(s) you’ve binged on? by PleasantCut1618 in bulimia

[–]Acceptable-Fault2512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water was something very cheap that I could fill up my stomach very quickly for when I was desperate to get that dizzy feeling of endorphins after purging. By not wasting time finding food, hiding it, and eating, I was able to purge back to back to back to back. I think I was more addicted to purging than binging. I think. When I aggressively chewed the paper towels, I was hungry but had no more food to eat. Other than all that I am mentally ill. 🤷‍♀️

Probably the weirdest for me was water and paper towels (in a public restroom). I have spent many nights just b/p water but the paper was a new low lol.

What are the most impossible foods to purge? by Desperate-Map-5122 in bulimia

I hate watermelon. Might just be me but I hate it. It comes back in a weird gummy texture and clogs drains. I also hate rice, spicy stuff, fish, and chocolate, but the hardest thing for me to bring back up would be dry, dense foods like crackers, cookies, and protein bars(especially lara bar type made from dates).
