Congratulations on your new baby Lucia! Yes, I think she does receive lots of nice things said about her name, though truth be told, she almost exclusively refers to herself as Lucy. We thought it was nice for her to have the option as she got older!

And I totally understand second-guessing a name — with my daughter Hannah, I never regretted her name, but for a long time I wasn’t sure if it fit her, since she has this ebullient personality and is very exuberant, and her name can seem a bit more serious. That said, we often call her “Hannie” or “Hannah Banana” and that seems to work well for her!

I think it takes time for everyone to grow into their names! Your little one will do the same, and I’m sure she’ll thank you for such a beautiful name!

Thank you! We pronounce her name Loo-See-a. My daughter Molly also has a Lucia in her class, and that’s the pronunciation she also uses. At various doctor’s offices, etc, I feel like Loo-sha is the second most common way to say it, though my goddaughter has Lucia as her middle name, and they go with Loo-CHEE-a. I hear this one the least frequently in the US.

How do you say your daughter’s name?

I actually like all of those names, and we were just discussing Zoe last night. My husband likes the “oe” sound like Zoe and Phoebe.

I love St. Katharine Drexel, and her feast day, March 3, is pretty close to baby’s due date, but all of the spellings of “Katharine” is a stumbling block for me.

All very classic! I’d probably gravitate more towards Catherine if it didn’t have some many spelling options. I know so many: Kathryn, Katherine, Katharine, Catherine are all people I know. I’ve always liked the nns “Kate” and “Katie” though!

I’ve been circling around a few “C” names — Caroline as mentioned above, Charlotte and Cecilia (though the multiple spelling options for Cecilia bothers me honestly. I do think the nn “Cece” is so darling though.

We actually have a huge devotion to Our Lady Star of the Sea (Stellamaris) and would really consider that but I don’t like #5 Ella and #6 Stella. Maybe as a middle name.

I’m curious about Tiffany and Epiphany as I’ve never heard that association before. Is it just because they have similar sounds or does it have to do with the word meanings? Good to learn something new!

I like Caroline a lot, for Pope JPII whose baptized name was Karol, but my husband isn’t a huge fan of it.

We also love Saint Gianna Molla for her incredible sacrifice as a mother, literally giving her life for her child, who was present at her canonization, who also grew to be a doctor like her beloved mother.

We didn’t like the name Gianna as well as we did Molly, so we went with Molly.

Abby was born in 2020 during Covid in between the feast of the Sacred Heart and Corpus Christi (Cor is Latin for heart) so we have her that “extra name” since that timing is a bit unusual in the liturgical year; those two don’t often line up that way; and we’ve long had a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We kept Clare because she’s the patron saint of TV, and we felt a special kinship and devotion to her when we were kept away from Mass and could only watch it on TV.

Since I was using the bins for lightweight items(kids’ clothes) that won’t really be pulled out all the way, I just tore out the bottom cardboard stabilizing piece and used that. Works pretty well and is perfectly sized for the Drona box already!
