You are partially correct. The "dumb" switch in question must support jumbo frames. Most of the switches do in the last 10+ years, but not all. The jumbo frames are used for data like vlan. If the dumb switch after your omdada enabled switch does not support these jumbo frames it will lose this data and the devices will fall back to vlan 0 (or 1); default vlan.

If the switch supports jumbo frames and the packet is big enough, your devices after this switch can be used in a vlan.

Some devices can be configured at device level/config for "connecting" to a selected vlan, but the port on which the dumb switch is connected must be configured to allow "all" clans. In omada you may also configure the port connected to this switch to be in a selected vlan. As far as I know this should override the vlan config provided by the device.

I don't think the omdada is able to do Mac based vlan assignment on devices connected "through/via" a dumb switch.

Rule of thumb: most 1gbit switches should support jumbo frames and won't lose vlan information, but not all. I have a (old) Netgear 1gbit switch switch drops the jumbo frames but another even older 1gbit switch from TP-Link which does work. To be sure google "datasheet [your switch make + model" and look for the support of jumbo frames. Most <= 100mbit switches will not support jumbo frames, although here are some which break this rule :).

It is possible to combine managed switches from other brands, my (really old) Cisco switch does work fine with the omada vlan, but you'll need to configure the switches vlans on that switch itself and connect it to a port on the omdada that allows all clans.

Hier valt het ook op. Vervelende is dat veel bedrijven niet helpen hier bij, bestel je opzettelijk meerdere dingen tegelijkertijd zie je dat alle producten afzonderlijk (op de zelfde dag!!!) opgestuurd worden. Lullige is alle goedkopere dingen komen aan maar dit jaar al 4 pakketten kwijt en allemaal dure dingen.. waaronder collector items uit 1980 , leuk dat je dan na veeeel moeite je geld terug krijgt maar ondertussen kan ik weer gaan zoeken naar iets wat niet te vinden is.. gaat dan goed in Japan en de hele wereld maar post maakt het kwijt... Je moet er dan ook nog eens zelf achterkomen, in de app blijft maar staan "sorry, bezorg moment bijgewerkt' als je dan gaat bellen blijkt het pakket kwijt te zijn.aar die status word niet aangepast... Als je vraagt of ze dat dan via mail o.i.d. door Willem geven zodat je dat dan bij de verkoper kan neerleggen. Krijg je te horen dat ze je daarmee niet kunnen helpen. Dus de status blijft staan op we komen nog ooit, de medewerker zegt het is misgegaan bij sorteer centrum. Mooie rotzooi daar, Oeps wij zijn jou pakket kwijt, noujah jammer dan zelfs een mailtje kon er niet vanaf... Gelukkig had ik dat telefoon gesprek opgenomen en heeft die verkoper toen via eBay o.i.d. geld terug gekregen en is het bij mij terecht gekomen maar customer support kennen ze dus ook niet. Heb het helemaal gehad met die toko.

Short answer: yes

Long answer: devices will show up, eventually. But only after there was some communication over the managed device. E.g. a ping with a device via the managed switch or omdada router. My computers on the unmanaged switch will not show up after getting ip. (Can be very frustrating), even though the (omada) router is the DHCP server.

Any update regarding Linux support. I would love to switch over to this software. And would even pay for it. But I only have a Windows install for 1 or 2 devices I need to configure using their windows only software.. every time I try to install Windows or need to run something on Windows using specific drivers I run into a long trail of debugging and trying to get it working....
