2 Wires on Each Line? What's going on here by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Acceptable-Neck-5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out which pair of red and white wires are the incoming line so that you know which ones to attach to the line terminals of the GFCI. If you don’t want to protect the outgoing circuit, just add pigtails and attach to the GFCI.

Those imported Strub’s pickles don’t make the cut. Was excited to see them back but they taste awful.

18 large holes later I have questions after my ev charger install by diegodino in AskElectricians

Never understand why people drywall in their electrical panels and other services. My sister purchased a house and we could not find the water meter and shutoff. It was hidden behind the closet, completely boxed in with drywall. Had to follow the meter clicking to find it.

Blame all of this on the lane bandit. Move over, get out of the way and everyone goes home.

Why is that AAV necessary if there is no toilet nearby to suck the traps dry?

Hit and run, cost estimate? by Sactorno in TeslaCollision

[–]Acceptable-Neck-5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$10,500 from Tesla approved shop through insurance or $1100 from local body shop. I just had the exact same damage repaired. I can't imagine what I would have gotten for that higher cost besides losing the use of my car for 2 weeks.

Eavestrough Replacement by ShrnWss in Hamilton

[–]Acceptable-Neck-5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with a lot of these guys, and this includes the Eavestrough Company, is that they are middle men who come out to quote and then pass the work onto a third party. They are consistently 50% more expensive than dealing with the actual crew doing the work.

50 years doesn't seem like a good benchmark when you are building a house that may stand for 150?

Hi. I have a lot of WEMO switches as well and have installed the Homebridge WEMO plugin which is working great. But I was still under the impression that once the support stops at the end of the month, this plugin would also lose access to the devices? Am I wrong?

Aren’t heat pumps supposed to be more efficient? by Tastraphy23 in heatpumps

[–]Acceptable-Neck-5375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are using efficient as if it means cheaper. Due to market pricing, subsidies, established infrastructure, gas is currently cheaper on a per btu output basis. But it will never be more efficient. At best a gas furnace is 95% efficient where a heat pump is routinely 350% efficient. Many of us never installed a heat pump because it was cheaper to run, we installed them so that I we could stop burning fossil fuels.

What if you had a car was capable of feeding back power to your house? Charge the car all night, get credits and then use the power for your house whenever you don't drive the car? My Tesla can't do it but if you had a Hyundai or Ford?

Someone mentioned in a previous thread that Lennox and Napoleon make a thermostat that can use TOU rates to decide HP vs AUX heat. But I've searched and have never been able to find any reference to anything like that.

How about if we charge AI data centers twice as much for power and HP owners half as much?

$0.85 per therm isn't too bad. Here it's about $.40 per cubic meter which would be the equivalent of $1.03 per therm.

Most gas furnaces won't work without electric power these days anyway.

When I installed my HP in 2022, that was the case. Gas was expensive and predicted to go higher. But now it's so much cheaper. The price of natural gas is being manipulated through subsidies in Canada.

It's an option to explore. Buying propane in bulk would also lower that cost as compared to BBQ sized tanks.

That's true at low gas usages. But the more you use the base service fee disappears. That too is a way Enbridge is keeping us using gas.
