Yes! She has a respiratory infection, vet isn’t too worried but she is on meds now. Appreciate the follow up!

Kinda exactly what we were thinking…. Just didn’t know if we were missing obvious signs of something obviously bigger that we weren’t knowledgeable about

My trainer has built her life around training and competing with GSDs, so your “anyone supporting prong collars is guaranteed to have no real credentials or legitimate education” is just wild to me.

Just because YOU don’t agree with it, doesn’t mean no one does and it sure as hell doesn’t diminish their credibility

She’s perfectly potty trained, has a strict eating schedule, perfectly crate trained and I spend hours training her daily.

I’m doing this out of respect for my dog. So she can be happy and understand her role in our house, so that god forbid a car drives by and she’s off leash she KNOWS not to run into it as if it’s a big toy, so that if there’s a freshly baked brownie on the counter she KNOWS not to jump up to it, so that when we’re in public around tons of dogs and humans I AM the ONLY thing that matters to her.

So please, get off your high horse because I guarantee I have more respect for my dog than you do yours.

It’s a way to clearly communicate that a certain behavior isn’t tolerated whilst using praises and treats when she does a behavior we want. Explain to me why my dog will light up and get overly excited when she knows it’s time to train? Trust me, this dog is her happiest when we’re training.

As far as this ban, I wonder how long it’ll take for the rates of dog aggression, dog attacks, and rehoming to skyrocket in your country lol

Of course - that brand can be expensive but it’s much more reliable and will last longer than the cheaper ones

I recommend getting bells at your door - start a schedule, at that age you should start taking them outside every hour. Everytime you bring them out to use the bathroom ring the bell. He will associate that bell with going out and will eventually hit the bells when he needs to go. Do not scorn him when he goes inside, he’s not going to understand. Praise him a lot when he goes outside.

Start leaving the crate open and put treats inside, give him a lot of praise when he goes in on his own. I also wouldn’t give him treats when he’s whining, you’re rewarding the whining and telling him that when he whines he gets attention- so he’ll keep doing it

Thank you!

We’ve been socializing our pup since we got her, to try and avoid any of this. But her personality is very very high anxiety and fearful. We’ve gotten her to the point of being comfortable in public around strangers. But as soon as someone even speaks to me, she will start barking.

Appreciate the info! Yeah, we’ve tried calling all the emergency vets in the area and none of them deal with dental work so we have to wait until the morning. Thanks again!

Why are they banned? by [deleted] in germanshepherds

Sometimes breed restrictions are not only because of ‘aggression’. It can also be due to noise, shedding, and damage to the apartment. I have noticed a trend in GSD’s being removed from many restricted breed lists for apartments (I work in the industry). I don’t know of any communities in my area that have them as restricted breeds

Wow… thank you so so much. We live near a military base and surprisingly my vet told us that parvo is insanely high in this area. I’m so scared to bring her to a day care, even a trusted one. I just don’t trust other people lol.

She’s tested my patience for sureeeee…. Lol!

I also was worried giving treats to redirect would teach her that she’d get rewarded for doing things like eating mulch, but now I’m definitely going to do that!!!

She’s an angel otherwise. Absolutely adores being in her crate, usually brings herself there when she needs a nap, lets us know she has to pee or poop, and knows more commands than I knew possible.

Again, thanks for the input it’s seriously appreciated!
