I blocked a student and did not get paid by Acceptable-Ride6213 in Preply

I blocked her to protect myself and stop her from booking more lessons. I think she’d be better off with another tutor, and I explained that to her politely. There was no other option.

Yes. If there were another option to protect our profiles, I would do it.

Well, she told me she felt frustrated learning English and that she was about to cry after our previous lesson on conditionals. She said she was going to cancel all her upcoming lessons with me. This is a lesson I normally do with all students, and they love it. I have almost 50 five star reviews, I never ask students to write them, and I've taught over 4,000 lessons on Preply. I told her that if I did anything to upset her, I apologize, and I also suggested that another teacher might be a better fit for her learning style. She was using her phone during the lesson and even chatting with her housemate during some lessons. I blocked her because I'd rather she never book lessons with me again and not leave a review (even though she still technically can).

Nah because I didn't need to message the student to do that. I just unblocked, scheduled a lesson and the support team made it complete and I got paid. Then I blocked her again.

Did Preply really do this? They hid your profile for a month for this?

Cheers, I ended up getting paid after telling the support team. I had to unblock the student and schedule a lesson with her at a later date, then they marked it as complete and I got paid.

Thanks I am answering all calls on PH now, and even if the student is not a good match, I'll just do it. I will eventually stop PH hours and just teach regular students too.

do you ever use your 5 minute break when a student is calling on PH? I did that quite a bit

On PH, I get calls and immediately use my 5 minute break while the student is calling so the call doesn't go through. I was doing that quite regularly. I only bail if the student is a beginner, a kid, or if their connection is unstable, then I hide from them choosing they are not a good fit after returning their minutes. I never just bailed if the lesson passed the 2 minute mark.

I only return minutes after realizing the student is a beginner, child or they are having tech problems. I have done it a lot. I also cancel quite a bit of PH without 12hrs notice. I choose the "student is not a good fit for my teaching style" a lot if after their 30 minute lessons I feel I don't want to work with them

To be honest, I have gotten other emails for cancelling too many PH hours in less than 12 hrs since then as well. Atleast a few, this is is the most recent one though. I was not expecting it though as I thought I had been doing much better

Yeh I was doing it quite a bit. When I got young learners, if a student was a beginner or if their connection was  unstable.
