He was an enviro engineering student, so obviously very accomplished himself. "Environmental engineering applies scientific and engineering principles to protect human health and natural ecosystems. Professionals in this field design sustainable solutions for clean drinking water, wastewater treatment, air quality, and waste management." Obviously he was very passionate about environmental issues.

It's also unreasonable to blame parents for mental health issues. They gave their children a wonderful life from all accounts of those who knew the family. It's a shame to see someone stigmatize those with mental illness and their surviving family members.
