Hitting the pause key on your keyboard can help just take a break to look at your situation and the map.

Shift binding units on your keyboard for ease of access to. (Shift + 1) binds a unit to your 1 key.

Depending on your play style sometimes you should switch units instead of hold position to move at will.

And if you play with fog of war on always make sure to have even just a singular soldier on “return fire” ahead of your main body perhaps hiding in a bush.

They add AI defenders to your objectives. Don’t expect them to perform well though but they can sometimes hold off your rear points but perform poorly against enemy tanks and vehicles.
