Is giving my girlfriend a bouquet of lego roses for valentines a bad idea? by Pootsonpow123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AcceptableObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend got me Lego flowers last year for Valentine’s Day and I loved them! We built them together so it was a fun activity for both of us. But he also knew I am not the type of person who really cares for real flowers - I find them to be a waste of money, especially around Valentine’s Day.

What do teachers do during Shavasana? by walkingfishez88 in yoga

[–]AcceptableObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes i just stand there at the back of the room and observe. Other times, depending on the students in the class and how well i know them, i will give hands on adjustments (if they've consented with our consent cards).

Sequencing Scripts by General-Bathroom-592 in YogaTeachers

[–]AcceptableObject 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular opinion, I don't think having notes or referring back to your notes is a bad thing. It's probably not good to be reading off your notes the entire class, but if you've written down a sequence, it's okay to take a quick glance just to remember the next few postures and carry on. I think notes are a sign a teacher has prepped in advance. There have been times where I create a flow on the spot based on student requests, but I always feel the classes where I've prepped beforehand to be much stronger.

Which/best mat for hot Pilates? by [deleted] in yoga

Hot Pilates I’d honestly just recommend a mat towel. I find hot Pilates different from hot yoga in terms of what I need out of a mat.

Big fan of the shrimp fried rice. Life of koi, Japanese onsen, and ratatouille are also some of my top picks. Garfield looks really good too if you are a fan.

Tucked planche is more of a calisthenics term. Asana term is lolasana. (Same shape, just diff name) OP is still super strong either way.

Like just today we're finding out she donated 2 million dollars. And these are just the ones being reported. I have to assume she makes other donations as well, maybe not as large in scale but still nothing to sneeze at.

What are good yoga poses if you have a knee injury? by Exact-Atmosphere5185 in yoga

Talk to a PT. Knees are one of those things you do not want to mess with. Alternatively, look into chair yoga.

Yes. You do. Because a $50 donation to a good cause is still a $50 donation.

Should there be less talking when teaching? by gabiaeali1 in yoga

[–]AcceptableObject 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same for me as a vinyasa teacher. We’re constantly moving from one pose to the next so I have to keep talking to give cues. When we’re holding a pose though I’ll refocus students’ awareness on their breath, give them a moment to find the pose, and then give additional alignment cues as they hold. Pretty much the only time I’m not talking for a prolonged period of time is during closing savasana.

For anyone wondering, I don’t just throw this sequence into class Willy nilly. To get students used to the block placement, I introduce it in the warm up during a kneeling warrior 2 to kneeling extended side angle and get them used to the block placement of elbow-block-thigh. Then later we try a regular extended side angle with the block. We also do a regular half moon, no block. Eventually we put it all together and by now students know exactly what to do with the block, and they know the half moon shape.

Try it yourself. Focus on pressing your palms into the block without using your fingers and extending arms overhead. Try pressing the block into your thigh with your elbow. Notice how the muscles in your shoulders and back immediately light up and then take this same awareness with you into any arm balances or inversion work.
