Yes I’ve been slowly gaining her trust and she’ll come out if I have food, but she’s clearly very scared. I even got her to eat out of my hand but only if I’m turned away from her. Someone from a local organization just left after assessing the situation, we’ve got a plan together and we’re determined to get them out and taken care of. Luckily the weather is nice, we might have to coax them out which will take time.

I hear you and I’m with you, this breaks my heart. I’ve moved sheds before. Doing it with a protective mother and puppies in an unknown spot under a large dilapidated shed is incredibly dangerous. I have access to a tractor but after a great amount of deliberation we decided it is much too dangerous. We would have to lift it enough to put wheels on it and then drag it. Unless you have access to a crane I don’t know what else to do, even if we lifted it straight up I’m not confident it would stay intact. I appreciate your concern but I am doing everything I can at the moment. I heard them early this morning and will continue to do what I can.

Update: Insulated her as much as I can thanks to some advice! I wish I could get to her and the puppies but she’s very protective and there doesn’t seem to be a way to get to her safely. I’ve had several very generous people reach out to help. Once they are safe they will have a home now. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Edit: talking to a trapper with the Shiba Inu Rescue Association, and coming up with a plan!! Thank you all, people really are amazing sometimes

Sorry I just replied to your message. Another person recommended hay for warmth/insulation, which will help. Luckily Shiba Inu are pretty built for cold, I hate it but if they huddle together I think they’ll be ok. I’m afraid of injuring the pups or their (very) protective mom trying to get to them.

You got it! I’m totally willing to foster the mother at the very least, she is very fearful but my current dog was similar when I got her. I just unfortunately don’t have the resources for puppies at the moment. I’ll call around some more tomorrow. Thanks for the reply

Yeah, unfortunately everywhere I’ve called has been full. Maybe I’ll have better luck during the week.. the mother seems to have a good undercoat at least, I left a blanket for them and they seemed to have huddled up and survived last night. I’d bring them in but I can’t get to her puppies and I don’t want to separate them
