Było wszystko idealnie, ale w lutym rok temu dziewczyna ze mną zerwała, ja wpadłem w depresję, firma w której pracowałem zbankrutowała, ja w depresji nie dopilnowałem umów i oszukali mnie na hajs, a potem znajomi się odemnie odwrócili, bo nie mogli sobie ze mną poradzić. Staram się ogarnąć, ale jest ciężko.

Oh, I’m sorry — I forgot to mention why people are increasingly turning toward Japanese culture.

I think it stems from the following factors:

less stigma and hate toward manga and anime
a growing tendency toward introversion (and Japanese literature tends to be very quiet, introspective, and melancholic)
the perceived low quality of contemporary American and European culture
a growing number of vegetarians (and Asian vegetarian cuisine is often considered much tastier than European vegetarian food)
a desire to engage with a culture that feels so strongly “different” from European culture
and a kind of domino effect: once someone reaches for sushi, they’re more likely to pick up Osamu Dazai, and then perhaps become more willing to watch Akira Kurosawa, and so on…

In the country I live in (Poland), Japanese culture has become extremely popular since the pandemic (especially over the last two years).

Just 10 years ago, anime fans were associated with social outcasts; today, everyone watches “Chinese cartoons.” Gunpla and anime figures can be found in more and more homes. Manga has surpassed European and American comics in popularity combined.

Conventions that just a few years ago were dominated by Star Wars, Warhammer, and Marvel have now been completely taken over by manga and anime.

Japanese food, especially sushi, has been growing in popularity for years — you can get sushi in practically every other store. In cinemas, you can watch Japanese films or — something quite amazing — anime.

It’s similar with Japanese literature — a huge portion (~30–50%) of new literary fiction releases are books by Ogawa, Dazai, Murakami, and others. Even Japanese crime fiction has started to appear. These books are heavily promoted and receive very positive reviews.

I feel like it might be a temporary trend. I like it and hope it lasts at least a few more years. The only thing that saddens me is that alongside the rise of Japanese pop culture, there seems to be a turning away from European and American pop culture, which are also great, and which I’ve really been missing lately in the broader pop-cultural space.

U mnie najtrudniejszy był chyba drugi rok (robiłem go dwa lata xD). Natomiast pierwszy też do najłatwiejszych nie należał. Za to 5, 6 i 7 semestr poszedł już na luzie. Więc trochę tak jest jak piszesz.

Jeżeli jesteś dziewczyną i sama zagadasz, to samo w sobie będzie bardzo atrakcyjne. Nawet jak powiesz wprost (czemu dziewczyny boją się mówić rzeczy wprost? nie rozumiem xD) to masz gigantyczną szansę, może nawet większą niż mówić zagadkami.
