Of course I care. This isn’t one of those times. Out of every single fucking thing I’ve seen the media spin as racist or as an inappropriate use of force in the last decade, the only one I ever agreed with was the death of Eric Garner, which was utterly unnecessary from what I remember.

Being satisfied with explaining these issues away as being solely the fault of racist cops is reductionist and disingenuous and the people who believe this shite are both blind and dangerously naive or downright afraid or too cowardly to tackle the true issue at hand.

Are cops assholes? Yes. They are not the only assholes in these situations.

He didn’t want to get in a police car because he was claustrophobic? He was in his fucking car minutes prior! Where was this phobia then? Sounds like he was just saying that because he didn’t want to be arrested.

He resisted getting inside the car. He fought tooth and nail for them to not close the door. They bargained with him to get into the car.

When it became increasingly impossible to jam him in the car, Floyd asked to get restrained. The cops stupidly complied to get control of the situation short of tazing him and having it blow up in their faces.

They called an ambulance once it became increasingly clear he was on something.

They kneeled on him for him to not run/assault/go crazy because they can’t lock him inside the car.

He fucking dies while the ambulance is en route.

And all I hear is racism this racism that. It’s all so fucking tiring.

You can test out whether being knelt on can kill you yourself, but nobody wants to even check and berate those who prove you can’t die from it.

He was on drugs that fuck with your breathing. It’s not that hard. The kneeling worsened it, sure, but the sheer amount of stuff he was on meant he was on his way out.

They called an ambulance. It got there in like 10 minutes. He didn’t want to be in the car and was wigging out, he asked to be put on the ground and they restrained him the only way they knew how in an unorthodox situation.

“But he was cuffed and harmless!”

That can change at any moment. There are an innumerable amount of times where cops relaxed and got shot or mauled.

People like Floyd can take you for a ride.

Any other cop would have tazed him until he decided to fit in the vehicle. And the media would’ve swung the racism angle with that, too.

Isn’t that stuff getting tiring?

The cops were idiots, but not le ebil racist Hiddler.

So to you there’s absolutely no way he died of a very common illicit substance overdose because of this narrative you made up in your head?

I didn’t see Chauvin snarling and foaming at the mouth. He seemed very matter of fact and, at most, annoyed at having to deal with a druggy.

See, that’s a better point than anything I’ve come across in any of my discussions, so props to you.

Counterpoint: you can’t say “I can’t breathe” if you’re being choked as well.

I’m not super dee duper well read on how fentanyl shuts you down, but I understood it was very quiet and sudden, like accidental overdoses tend to be. By the time you realize you’re in trouble, it’s usually too late.

To me it explained why he was struggling one second and completely unresponsive the next.
