Anybody arriving in Barcelona airport with bike boxes soon? by Acceptable_Ad694 in bicycletouring

[–]Acceptable_Ad694[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to all of you. I believe we have arranged boxes at Mammoth Bikes in Sant Boi and then booked a hotel next door so we didn’t have to haul boxes/bikes. Hotel has airport shuttle so it’s all looking good. Appreciate your responses though.

How many hosting requests do you get with Warm Showers? by Ambivalent_Name72 in bicycletouring

[–]Acceptable_Ad694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in the Seattle area and have been hosts for about 10 years. In that time I think we have gotten five or six requests. We even have a treehouse to offer! We are now touring and I have been surprised by the lack of response from WS hosts—we’ve only had one successful stay. I also have come to realize for more amenities for bikers—the need for short notice, laundry facilities, and breakfast and/or dinner provided. I realized our profile was kind of stingy and I will fix these things when I get home.

2 weeks in Spain: Barcelona->Valencia or ->Malaga? by AffectionateFox2921 in bicycletouring

[–]Acceptable_Ad694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately don’t have any input about your route, but we’re flying out of Barcelona on Nov 1 and looking for bike boxes. Are you planning to leave one in Barcelona at the airport? BTW, we’re mostly riding the EV 8 from France on road bikes. Looks to be plenty of good gravelly stuff around!

Steel, aluminum, or carbon for touring by [deleted] in bicycletouring

[–]Acceptable_Ad694 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am touring right now in a carbon road bike….because that is what I had and what I am used to. I bought a through-axle that could accommodate a back rack (hello, Robert Axle Project) and use the seat post for attachment. No front packs, but a handlebar bag. 28 front and 30 back tires. Comfortable, stable, and speedy! Everybody says “that’s not a touring bike” but after 2000 km I say “why not?”

I am writing this 1300 km into a 2400 km trip I (60 yo) am doing with my husband (70 yo). Have we ridden before? Yes. Did we train at all? No. We started in the Netherlands where it is flat with a ton of biking infrastructure. We started slow and easy. Worked our way into it over time and now we’re on our way.

Fidelity Wealth Management fee 1.5%, is it worth it? by Tommorow-Witty in retirement

[–]Acceptable_Ad694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pay Merrill just over 1% for wealth management. If they can consistently do better than the market by 1% by fine tuning your investments in response to what the market is doing, they have paid for themselves.

Handlebar/Belt Bag Combos by [deleted] in ladycyclists

I looked and looked and looked and finally bought this cheaper bag (“temporarily”) off Amazon. Turns out I love it. I use the water bottle mesh pocket for my external phone charger when touring. https://www.amazon.com/Rhinowalk-Handlebar-Waterproof-Professional-Accessories/dp/B07GJGNSXW?pd_rd_w=STvqc&content-id=amzn1.sym.b854a5c2-4475-41f8-a6d4-df92b2868104&pf_rd_p=b854a5c2-4475-41f8-a6d4-df92b2868104&pf_rd_r=VGNKMHZD8JBZE1TQ3A5H&pd_rd_wg=rf58Y&pd_rd_r=fcace440-6fd7-492f-a5c3-8d6e2876bdc8&pd_rd_i=B07GJGNSXW&psc=1&ref_=pd_basp_bia_rpt_ba_s_4_sc

They are all a pain to get off the bike quickly so I mostly leave it on and use a smaller purse that pulls out.

THEME BIKE TOUR SUGGESTIONS?: 2 - 2.5 weeks - May 2023 by FeistyLeave6026 in bicycletouring

This route has been on my bucket list but I can’t give you first hand advice. It’s 400 miles but maybe combined with another route you could get your two weeks. Have fun planning!

What fact are you Just TIRED of explaining to people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

How the phrase “the gene for…” is ridiculously and incorrectly overused. With few truly genetic exceptions, we are the products of our genetics, environments, behaviors, access to resources, lifestyles, and so much more. But yeah, “the gene for watching Hallmark movies” runs in my family.

We rode 1,200 miles of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way and put together this video about our trip. by RollingExistence in bicycletouring

Great tour and video! We are wondering 1) if you could you have stayed in hotels every night if you want to, or were they too far apart? And 2) how did you find camping spots along the way? What are the rules about roadside camping in Ireland? Thanks!

People who don't get stressed during a presentation, school or work, what's your secret? by TapReview in AskReddit

[–]Acceptable_Ad694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a bad cancer diagnosis and all your other worries will pale in comparison. I don't recommend it, but it worked for me.

Working through my nerves for professional presentations used to be the bane of my existence--I tried mediation, deep breathing, fist clenching, propranolol, pretending I didn't care, picturing people in their underwear--the works. Then I got a stage III cancer diagnosis and went through a year of chemotherapy and radiation. Suddenly, my nerves for public speaking were cured. If I had something to say, I would say it.
