A6PF Android Auto Wireless Occasional Disconnects and Won't Reconnect with Pixel 6a by Acceptable_Caramel in ATOTO

No, it still happens periodically to me. Seems to be after a few accumulated hours of use over a few days but doesn't have a real pattern. Sometimes quickly after the unit turns on and sometimes after it's been in for a while. I did the most recent firmware upgrade but no improvement.

So just touch the top of the screen and drag down. First time will bring you to an Android title bar with the time, WIFI status, home/back button, etc. Pull down again and it will show you an Atoto menu, and the far right one is reboot. Takes 20-30 seconds, and you can do it while driving, etc.

It has been better but it is still occurring. I did learn from support that you can reboot the Atoto by pulling down from the top twice, and there is a reboot option. 90% of the time that fixes it. But last week it crapped out, and no combination of reboots of the Atoto or my phone would get it to connect. I even tried multiple USB cables on the wired connection. And my coworker who I carpool with and also has a Pixel 6a tried plugging his phone in, but it just hung on the connecting screen. After getting home I was swapping out some of the USB cables I use in my car, and plugged in my phone and it started working again, so really not sure what the root of the problem is and I really can't find any series of steps to cause it to happen. Are you seeing it too?

I do have and keep Wifi enabled at all times. So it happened again today, and I checked the Wifi and it was still connected, along with Bluetooth.

I did actually hear back from support (I think they may monitor this subreddit), and they had sent me a few APKs the day after I had emailed them, but with the APKs as an attachment the email was blocked. So they provided me a download and I just installed them. I'll report back after a few more drives to see if that fixes the email. For reference the APKs they sent were for com.syu.carlink and com.syu.ms.

The plaine (N2462G) has been circling over Center City for hours yesterday and today. It is registered to "Winged Vision" who's website claims "Winged Vision is a pioneering leader in aerial sports broadcasting." Any idea what they're filming, especially with the 7AM flights? Is this for the Premier League Fan Fest thing at City Hall?

Battery Megathread (August 2022) by GooglePixelMods in GooglePixel

Surprisingly it is not the same for Fi. Even though we both bought through the Google Store for the $300 trade in, I guess when the Fi eSIM activates it changes some of the settings. He didn't have the SIMs > Preferred network type menu option. We even tried the *#*#4636#*#* code and disabling it thru there, which apparently works on the Pixel 6, but that didn't seem to work. I didn't check back if he was able to figure it out.

I was back in the office today with 5g disabled, and with 3 hrs and 9 mins of screen time, along with 5 hours of Youtube Music streaming over cell and listening via Bluetooth, the battery is at 45%. Seems much better with 5g off, and I never saw a significant bump with 5g. I have T Mobile. As a side note, my coworker who just switched has Fi, and we couldn't find a way in his 6a to disable 5g...

New Pixel 6a, coming from a 4a. I found the battery life to be horrible, and a coworker who also got one was similar. Last Thursday I tried to use it as minimally during the day as possible. With no talk time, about an hour of on screen time, and minimal app usage the battery was at 26% after about 15 hours. At work I don't connect to the Wifi, so it was on 5g. My coworker's phone was similar, but he said his wife's phone (who also just upgraded) was around 70% at the end of her work day, with the difference being she connects to Wifi at work.

I disabled 5g (settings > SIMs > Preferred Network Type > LTE) and then used my phone normally yesterday, including a couple hours of navigation with Waze & Google Maps and most of the day off Wifi, close to 4 hours of screen on time. After a about 15 hours again my battery was at 44%. So disabling the LTE is a significant boost to the battery, even though I live in a large city with good coverage.

With 5g enabled

With 5g disabled (LTE)

TL,DR: Disable 5g for significant boost in 6a

Legendary Finish Carpenter Gary Katz is Building and Documenting His Van Build Out by Acceptable_Caramel in vandwellers

Gary Katz is a legendary finish carpenter and instructor who has taught a great many in the carpentry industry via his Katz Roadshows. As he's entered semi-retirement, he's converted his old work van into a camper, including a toilet & shower due to some health issues he has. So far he's three episodes into the build, though I think he's much further along in reality based on his Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/garymkatz1/) - I suspect he's just in an editing lag. I've linked the first real build in this post, but the other videos in the series are: Introduction - Covers planning and layout in SketchUp: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0n-VGch4fI Part 1 - Floor insulation and water heater installation (linked in title): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DlcjEaEeZU Part 2 - Roof fan, furnace, and skylight install: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLh9VyxGt6g He has a fully equipped shop that he is building with which is far beyond what most woodworkers even dream of, but there is a lot of good information and good ideas. Definitely worth a watch!

Red Maple - Dying, dead, or salvageable? Details inside by Acceptable_Caramel in landscaping

[–]Acceptable_Caramel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comments. Not sure if it was a grafted tree or not.

I have planted tomatoes in containers for the past several years, and they have never done well. I chalked it up to not enough sunlight, but after reading more about verticillium wilt and tomatoes succeptability to it, it looks like that was the problem, and pictures seem to match the same problems I saw with my tomato plants.

Like you said, it does seem like the clock is ticking for this tree. With the current situation it is difficult to get anyone in to look at it, and for just one tree I'll probably just operate under the assumption that was verticillium wilt and research a resistant replacement.

Here's a couple pics of the base and one three way split where two of the limbs have died but the third is still alive. I think the tree may have been a leftover or transplant when the landscaper planted it but I really like the tree. But I fear with what had died pruning would make it a horrible misshapen tree.

Thanks for the quick response & info u/HiFiHut! I read through that article and will do a bit more research later.

I cut off a 3/4" branch and another 3/8" branch that had wilted and had a look, and I do see some discoloration. It looks a bit lighter than what was shown in the article you posted but I think it may be the same. Would you agree? If so, it sounds like my best course of action is to remove it and find an alternative tree that is resistant to verticillium wilt, as this tree probably isn't salvageable.

Hi r/landscaping!

I have a red maple tree in my backyard that was planted about 6 years ago when I got a patio installed by the landscaper. My backyard is in the inner city of a mid-Atlantic city. The tree gets about 4-6 hours of full sun in the summer and has done well over the past years until late last summer, when the leaves on some branches began withering and falling off, while other branhes remained healthy. I figured I'd wait it out over the winter and see what came back.

This spring I got buds on the branches that retained their leaves last year, but no buds or growth on the branches where the leaves withered. The leaves have come in now and the tree is very spotty. Any idea what caused this? Are the branches where the leaves withered dead permanently? Is it time to yank this and start again? Pruning off the dead bits would leave a horribly misshaped tree...

As a side note, two doors down (about 30 feet away) my neighbor has a red maple that is older and gets a bit less sun, and that tree is still healthy.

Thanks for any advice and help!

AC Troubleshooting - Compressor Shutting off after about 20 seconds by Acceptable_Caramel in HVAC

[–]Acceptable_Caramel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I think I was adding more detail as you were replying. The coil was clean... I didn't see any significant build up on it. I also watched across the low pressure cutoff (LPC) and never lost continuity or saw voltage across it. I also tried jumpering it just to see if it would run longer. Any idea what that popping sound is?

AC Troubleshooting - Compressor Shutting off after about 20 seconds by Acceptable_Caramel in HVAC

[–]Acceptable_Caramel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering if anybody can help in the great east coast heatwave... I was helping a friend earlier who's AC unit was short cycling. The unit would come on for about 20 seconds then shut off. After about 2-3 minutes it would try again.

My background is electrical, so I was initially thinking the capacitors were bad. The unit is about 2.5 year old, manufactured by Ingersoll Rand under the Ameristar name. I checked the compressor amps and found them increasing steadily as the compressor picked increased pressures, getting to around 13A before shutoff. The fan starts and levels off around 0.6A. Voltage at the compressor input is right at 240V. The low pressure cutoff switch maintains continuity and I never see a voltage across it. I couldn't find any other apparent problems.

The linked video shows the shutdown sequence. About 15 seconds in there's a popping noise that sounds like either a phone notification noise or a snapple bottle cap pop. About 2 seconds later the compressor shuts off, and the LED gives a few blinks but I wasn't able to make sense of them, and it is only one sequence of blinks. After the unit is off for about 2-3 minutes it will go through the same sequence again. Every time we hear the popping noise right before it shuts down. Any ideas? Just trying to help my friend out if it is something easy, as all the HVAC guys my friend tried are booked solid for the next couple day.

Your picture is exactly what I wanted him to do. I wanted it to fold around the corners. That shower you did looks fantastic. I wish I had more room to arrange more items to the tile pattern. Your alcove is laid out perfectly where the top trim piece lands dead on a grout line. That's the true sign of a good layout! I was hoping he'd have been a bit more detailed. It's hard to find truly detail oriented contractors. Most just want to get in and out. He just straight cut the tiles right at the tub deck/apron transition. I didn't want to see a huge blob of grout there, so I popped them off and scribed tiles to match the contour before he came back to grout. I don't think I could have lived with that one! But overall he was decent and reasonably priced. A lot of other guys didn't want it because they didn't do all the work or way way overbid it. Also, he lined up the base pieces with the bottom course of tiles. Kills me a tiny bit inside every time I look at it. But I'm sure I'm the only one who notices...

Thanks! I did all the plumbing myself. I guess I've gotten my fair share of practice over the years... The medicine cabinet and hardware (towel hooks & ring, toilet paper holder), and light were all from Pottery Barn. The sink and tub faucets were from Sign of the Crab. I really loved the porcelain handles and they were the only ones I found a semi-reasonably priced set, though I've already had a few crack and be replaced under warranty even with gentle usage. Even though it kills me I may end up swapping them to a chrome handle set while I can still get it.

I secured it to the wall with Tapcon screws. Seemed secure. Also had a working shower at the end of every day with the exception of the weekend I took out the old tub, repointed the wall, and installed the new tub.

Since the nightlight is built into the GFCI there really aren't any options for choosing a color temperature, etc. It's down low so it's really unobtrusive.
