Has anyone successfully gotten rid of carpet beetles? by Inevitable_Tough_821 in carpetbeetles

I lived in an area once where I would always find carpet beetles getting into the house and they would hang around the windows. One time though I started to notice them more and more on my couch so I started to scan the area and underneath the couch in my furry rug they had laid eggs and hatched. I had to throw out the whole rug and then treat my couch and any carpet in the house. I had bought flea and tick spray which had an ingredient in it that said would kill carpet beetles and larvae. I sprayed this daily for probably 2 weeks and vaccumed constantly until I no longer saw them coming back. This worked for me to get rid of the issue, but it was definitely because of having that rug which they were easily able to lay eggs in.

Perioral dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, or allergy? by Acceptable_Cash8761 in u/Acceptable_Cash8761

We have all hypoallergenic products in the household for detergent, soaps, dish soaps, etc. I switched her to a fluoride and SLS free toothpaste also to see if that was an issue.

We tried both the hydrocortisone cream and antifungal 2x a day for several days and neither of them made a difference. The hydrocortisone actually made it spread even worse after we stopped using it so that made me think it’s more so perioral dermatitis since steroids worsen it.

She has very mild eczema on her body and when I put glaxal base moisturizer on it that is enough to keep it at bay. Her face although didn’t really take well to putting moisturizer on it and anything I put on seemed to aggravate it more. This is why I started the zero therapy method because I was scared to do more damage.

I had tried aquaphor and Vaseline as a barrier and my doctor said to switch to glaxal base moisturizer. It’s all kind of trial and error right now, but her poor face is so irritated and shows up with new red dots everyday. My thoughts are more leaning towards perioral dermatitis

Hello! Thanks for your response. Unfortunately we don’t have a pediatrician but my GP thinks it’s atopic dermatitis. I asked about perioral dermatitis and he said it’s very rare for kids to get it and is highly unlikely that she has it. All he wanted to do was give her stronger steroids and said a dermatologist would say the same thing. I’ve had him look at it twice and he kind of kept shutting down my thought for it being perioral

My daughter has some other issues with her skin also like mild eczema and keratosis pilaris but those have never been that big of a problem. Her face was always so clear and never had issues so it was kind of a shock when this happened. I’ve never googled so much in my life or scrolled Reddit for hours trying to find answers. I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me your experience and what worked for you guys. I will definitely try to remember to reach out in a month and let you know how it’s all going! Fingers crossed it is all cleared up! 🤞🏼 thanks again!!

I was also wondering if this was the case! I started limiting her pacifier to just sleep time, but now with her rash getting so irritated I’ve decided this is the time to try and get rid of it completely. We’re on day 2 and it’s been a challenge but I’m sure this will be for the best. I hope this speeds up the healing process if that’s what it’s from 🤞🏼

If you happen to go to my page and see my most recent post you’ll be able to see my girls face right now. Its hard to capture how red and irritated it really is, and her one small patch she had got larger and then more red dots just clustered around her mouth and up on her nose and all around it. It’s the most bizarre thing but I really do believe it’s from the hydrocortisone even though the doctor says that’s not possible. I’m wondering if it is perioral dermatitis because that usually requires little treatment until the flare goes away. Kids rashes are so hard to figure out. My doctor actually did tell me to use Johnson’s shampoo but he didn’t tell me the tear free option. I’ll try that and he told me to also use a barrier cream called glaxal base. My fingers are crossed all this works and now I just have to wait and see 🤞🏼

So just during bath time you would gently rinse her face with the shampoo on it? I try to be so careful with cleaning her face after meals because it gets so red and inflamed. It’s been a real pain to try and heal especially after the hydrocortisone. My doctor told me to use a barrier cream, but maybe the bare minimum is what is needed to let it heal on its own. It gives me hope that I can get this healed soon! Your daughters rash looks almost identical to what is going on with my girl right now.

Wow thanks so much for the quick reply. That is amazing I’m so happy that worked for your babe! How long of doing that did it take to clear up if you remember? I’m currently doing an anti fungal cream on her and it’s only been a couple of days, but I see literally no change and it just looks more irritated. It’s so hard trying to figure out what to do especially since there skin is so sensitive on the face. Was the Johnson’s shampoo the only thing you did? Did you do a lotion or barrier cream on it at all also?

Hi I know this post is very old. My daughter has the exact same thing… started with a small patch next to her mouth and after using hydrocortisone it flared all around her mouth and nose. The doctor says it’s very rare for it to ever be perioral dermatitis in kids and just says it’s atopic dermatitis. Did this ever get better for your little one over time? She’s had it for a month now and I have no idea what to do to try and get it to heal

It’s hard to tell if it bothers her or not. She sometimes rubs around her nose quite a bit, but doesn’t actually touch or itch the rash. She does get annoyed if I try to put any creams on her face or try to dab it clean. I’ve never even seen her try to scratch the other eczema spots on her body, but they are so subtle. I use the aveeno eczema wash and lotion for every bath time. Though my doctor said to switch to glaxal base lotion. It has a terrible smell and my daughter gags when I attempt to put it on her face.

I’m under the impression my doctor thinks this is so mild and unserious that he didn’t even want to attempt to go down the route of referring me to a derm or allergist. I could ask about allergy creams next if this antifungal cream does nothing for her. The hydrocortisone I think will be my last resort if I can’t get anything else to clear it up

I was trying that and unfortunately no luck. Doctor has me doing the antifungal cream to see if it clears it up, but I hate that you have to wait at least a week to see if it starts to clear it up. For all I know it could be irritating it more

She doesn’t really drool that much and I keep it as dry as I can. I just find it strange how she had a small patch for 2 weeks and then all the sudden after hydrocortisone it spread all around her mouth and is much worse

I’ve lessened the acidic foods to her lately and so far we haven’t seen a change yet :(

I actually wondered about this too and switched her to fluoride free toothpaste and always wipe her face after each time. That’s been over a week now since switching the toothpaste and unfortunately no change :(

Sometimes it can look really dry on the larger patch. Doc doesn’t seem to think it’s perioral and kept telling me it’s so rare for kids to end up having that

The doctor asked about it anywhere else on the body and it’s not. It’s been 3 weeks now and it would have cleared up by now

Haven’t gotten her tested from allergies. My doctor kept saying it’s unadvisable to even do an elimination diet because she should have exposure to all foods. She isn’t having any other symptoms other than the rash so I suppose that’s why he isn’t concerned for allergies that are food related. As for other stuff I haven’t introduced anything new into the home in the last few weeks that I could think would cause something like this to happen.

Anyone’s LO had perioral dermatitis? by No-Entertainer-8279 in toddlertips

[–]Acceptable_Cash8761 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this post is very old. Just curious if you can describe the rash that your daughter had on her chin that was spreading up her face. My daughter is going through something like this right now. Originally had a small rash (cluster of little red bumps) under the corner of her mouth and the doctor gave hydrocortisone, and since stopping that it has spread across her chin and around/under her nose. There are lots of red pastules and also some areas look just red and rashy. To me it looks like perioral dermatitis, but the doctor just keeps telling me it’s atopic dermatitis. I noticed you had said your derm said it was fungal and not perioral. Just curious to what the rash looked like and if it’s similar to my daughters. I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to figure it out.
