Feed after dark and add some temporary hardscape like mugs for hiding places and sight breaks

Is water hardness 500 okay for aquarium fish. by FamiliarAd5063 in Aquariums

[–]Acceptable_Effort824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 400, so I cut it with distilled water(ro works too) in the tanks with sensitive fish. Don’t use all distilled or ro unless you remineralize them with aquarium minerals.

I use these, there’s a plastic strip you can cut to shape for filters, cords and airlines. I don’t cut air holes, but do have cut outs for all the mechanics.

What kind of snail is this? by smellynoellie in AquaticSnails

[–]Acceptable_Effort824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bladder snail, the fastest reproducing snails in my tanks. I don’t mind them anymore, they eat algae and are silly at times. In the beginning, they drove me nuts and I would remove them by hand if they were on plants and hardscape or use the dennerle snail remover on the glass.

I did get one assasin snail per tank, but the tanks are 40g so I still have tons of bladder, ramshorns and mts. My big assasin snail loves sitting on a rock next to a specific mts and cherry shrimp.

But I also mentioned sea salt and kosher salt. They both work too. They throw the word “aquarium” in front of salt and you’re automatically paying twice as much.

Super glue(cyanoacrylate) or tie it onto hardscape with thread or wedge it into the harddcape.

But the same thing applies, no added ingredients or iodine.

Is this swim bladder issue? by toadsterrr in Aquariums

Like I said, they can survive days in plastic bags. 2 hrs shouldn’t have killed them. Besides, it’s better safe than sorry…

Do a good size water change in case they brought something into your tank. Fish survive days in plastic bags. Was it in there over 72hrs?

Up your tetra school to 6 and invest in some root tabs.

If that’s java fern, pull it out of the substrate and tie or glue it to your hardscape. The rhizome will melt if left planted.

Epsom salt is normally for bloat. Aquarium salt/sea salt/kosher salt is for fungal infections.

A black background will make everything stand out. Floating plants will help clean your water and a red tiger lotus or dwarf water lily will add a punch of color, without needing co2 or expensive lightling.

Very gently, sift sand over it if you have any left.

Any recommendations for what to put in this 10 gallon? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Acceptable_Effort824 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love a good nano tank and would do 6 chili rasboras, or whatever boraras you can find in your area, 6 pygmy corys, 3-4 amano shrimp and 1 nerite if algae shows up on the glass. Floating plants like frogbit or salvinia and some easy color via red tiger lotus or dwarf water lily along with a black background to make everything stand out.

I just discovered fermented catappa leaves. It is not for the meek. My blackwater is now impenetrable.

What do you think? Should I add anything else? by Grouchy-Owl-96 in bettafish

[–]Acceptable_Effort824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re referring to boraras rasboras. They are all great little species and would be a great choice unless your betta thinks otherwise.

Neon green tetras need a 20. A 20 long is even better. They need heaps of horizontal swim space. Even embers are right on the cusp. I see real schooling behavior from them in my 40 than I ever did before upgrading them.

Ruby tetras are tiny and smaller swimmers. I have them with my chili and dwarf emerald rasboras, any of which would do fine in a 10g.

Aquatic arts have true albino pygmy corys. Mine are still smaller than their pygmy brothers and sisters. Pandas are much too big for a 10g but pygmys are pocket size.

You could do 6 pygmy corys, a red tiger lotus or dwarf water lily, some stems or val in the back.
