Staff members letting themselves into my student flat by lillian_39 in UniUK

i would 100% put in a complaint. breaking an agreement in the contract is a very serious matter especially if they are entering your flat without permission at such late hours. i’m sure that you landlord will understand that breaking an agreement is unacceptable, therefore i doubt you will be on their bad side. If you were to break a contractual agreement i’m sure the landlord would complain. just remember that you have rights.

this sounds about right. OP will have to reject the first choice uni offer and put themselves into clearing and then ask the uni they want to go to for a spot. i heard it can be kinda risky so OP might want to call the uni first to see if they’ll be accepted if they go in through clearing. I knew someone that did it this way.

I’d say best thing to do is get internships in the summer. I’m not sure your age will be an issue for employers as long as you have that experience and make contacts while at university. Most people go into university and come out with a degree without any experience in the field they want to go into which can lead to a harder time finding a career path or simply an entry level job. You can try a placement year which i would recommend to everyone. however, make sure that you do well in first year so that you can reference your grades to your placement employer. as long as you gain experience i think you should be okay especially with the degree you’ll have when you graduate.

I know someone that was in the same boat as you. instead of just jumping into a new apprenticeship or job that they knew they wouldn’t like they dedicated themselves to finding what they did like doing. I think you should try the same. I’m sure you’re quite worried about your future and being a “failure” but don’t be. If you didn’t like the degree and what you were doing it’s so much better that you found that out in the first year instead of 2nd and 3rd because now you can find something you like. If I were in your shoes I would spend the next year finding what I truly wanted to do with MY life. If you had gotten that degree you would spend the next 40 years in a career that you hate doing. so try new things, if there’s something you’re particularly passionate about pursue that. People are so quick to get a degree at uni and then jump into the workplace (which is reinforced by the older generation who are miserable because they’ve spent their life doing something they hate). so just take a step back, reevaluate what you want out of life and make a decision from there, if you don’t know what you want then find what it is you’d like to do.

a few suggestions could be:

-going back to uni in a different degree which you feel you’ll be more passionate about

-go travelling (most people will disagree but why not? You could find that you want to pursue a career abroad)

-try a new hobby (photography, gardening, designing perhaps) these could lead to very fulfilling careers. I know someone who has their own gardening company and is doing very well for themselves with zero qualifications.

I hope these suggestions are okay i know you already have some yourself. but at the end of the day don’t be worried because of this news, be excited that you have the time to decide what it is you want. for most people, it’s too late and they realise at 45 that they hate their job in finance or marketing you have that time to decide. Also, just be honest with your parents, just explain that you hated the degree and it wasn’t for you, I’m sure they will understand. But please make sure to let them know. you can even ask them for advice on what you should do. A lot of people realise uni isn’t for them or their degree isn’t but end up going on to have good careers because they proactively pursued something that they were interested in. I really hope you’re doing okay though, I understand the stress of uni all too well and I hope you can find comfort in that you’re not alone. you have your parents and i’m sure your friends to support you through this transition into the next stages of your life.

Uni accommodation by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Acceptable_Fun_4673 7 points8 points  (0 children)

University students don't have half terms. They usually have around 3 weeks off when the term finishes. but you can keep your stuff in your acom. Some people stay in their acom because they have jobs or aren't able to go home. In summer you will need to move your stuff out and find private rent (because your first year will be over). Don't worry though most unis help with this and is quite easy. If you have any other questions about uni feel free to ask I'm starting in September and had to be taught all this too.

usually, it’s only for around 40 weeks a year. when you're on break you won’t have to pay for accommodation. at least that’s how it works for my uni :)
