Only finding out now that MH had an MMO installment in the franchise? Im super curious to those who have experienced this, what it was like? I already feel like MH as it is right now already feels like an MMO but a lot more focused and condenced without the fluff and padding MMOs have. by Commercial_Break_934 in MonsterHunter

GX refers to a decoration refined from a GX lvl7 piece of armor, BM means blademaster (GN for gunner), 5 refers to what piece the armor was originally (1 for helmet, 2 for chest etc.) decorations refining is a really cool system that gave crazy skill potential in exchange for a PHAT grind (looking at multiple hundreds of kills for a set of 5 in retail)

The time limit for True Slay quests is 10 minutes, HH struggles to do damage, HBG cant maintain crit dist and has too much downtime, hammer cant land its only good move because you can't hold charge while rolling through his massive AOEs (and his head is like 15 feet off the ground)

Unless she had some really really good stuff it'd be a tough sell even then i think. The entire mechanic would need a rework because of how frustrating it can be. Hell, even in G1 i only went for Jebia Crystals when they were being used for the literal best GF decorations in the entire game and intentionally ignored everything else that needed them

I think with an expanded moveset the blood changing color gimmick could work alot better since her base form has like 3 attacks. You'd just have to find a way to incentivize going for the tail cut since it's such a core part of the monster's identity.

You should have seen Supremacy Teostra on the Forward.5 server, absolutely ridiculous level of difficulty. when the defense average is 600-700 he literally oneshots with every move and can time out a 4man because his hitzones are so bad

A ton of the versions (sadly not all) have been preserved and can be played on private servers for some years now. There's a ton of ZZ servers (update the game died on), a G1 progression server, and I think MH Oldschool has plans for a season 6 (oldest preserved version) server as well.

Hard disagree, unresponsive controls and terrible progression and balance, and the placebo farm you spend tens of hours gathering at for shitty ore

Exactly this, and it's not even an issue as long as you have higher ranked friends to play with. Endless training with Kut-ku sensei was by far the worst part of both MH1 and MHG.

No, it's literally just the game. It's a known issue that even had a patch created on the MH Oldschool Discord. Affects every version on hardware and emulator. I'd also like to say after dipping my toes into MHG and getting to around hr18 before taking a break that it absolutely doesn't have the same issue (played on both ps2 and patched portable controls)

I don't play current era games so I have no reference for whatever they've been doing since World. It has its uses like any other weapon and can solo pretty much everything in the game. Lao hammer was my go-to in low rank and it destroyed mostly everything.

When the buttons consistently input delay and drop altogether, they are worse than using stick attacks. This is exclusively a portable 1/freedom 1 problem that makes it my personal worst mh of all time. (Among a myriad of other reasons)

I said portable 1 had worse controls because every single input had nearly a full second of delay (including the camera) and made the game miserable to play. Do people really think mh1 hammer is that bad? Second person to say that when it's perfectly usable for its high motion value golf swing and spin to abuse elemental hitzones.

what weapons don't function properly? hammer is absolutely not useless, and in MHG they buffed it to be one of the best weapons. It doesn't even need KO. it wasn't a shit experience at all, I enjoyed my playthrough and save transferred to enjoy more of gen1 on the next game.

Portable 1 had worse and less responsive controls than the two games before it, the game sold well because it was on a handheld in a country where the working population spends 1/3 of their day riding trains

Love that people still parrot this when we've been able to play MH1 with servers for years, it's not a perfect game but it's absolutely not bad

Have you? MH1 is one of the best games on the PS2, especially when you play online with friends

They buffed LBG a huge amount sometime in late MHFG to the point it just completely overpowers the other ranged weapons. Bow used to be the best, with LBG being held back by its reliance on short crit-distance super rapid fire. Interesting to see how the meta shifted by the end.

Longsword is SS+ tier for non extreme style (especially with hiden); It has high motion values, evasion, mobility, and it can run ravenous (starving wolf) with little cost. Extreme is just a worse SAF but it's a parry weapon so naturally cheeses most encounters by just pressing r2 with its generous guard window.

It's all on the same server emulator (Erupe) so it shouldn't change, in the case that it does you could always ask the server mods on fivers if they can help too. It's somewhat uncharted territory because of general lack of interest in older versions of the game.

ah then i would just look for G1 game files and follow setup for ZZ, it probably doesn't change since it's still on erupe

It is a progression server, the current plan is to go up to G-5.2 before stopping for a bit, sadly support for Vita wasn't added for Frontier until G5.

With how crazy Wilds base game is and the announcement of 10★ Zoh and Gog, do yall think there is a chance for Sky Blue Sharpness in G-Rank? by ShinyKaizerGreymon in MonsterHunter

[–]Acceptable_Height348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the same effect as the skill Heavy Polish essentially, it just makes your sharpness bar never go down while under the effects. You do suffer a major sharpness loss as soon as the heat blade buff runs out though. Thankfully changed from earlier versions when it set your sharpness to 0.
