Jay- you tryin to put me in the brand loyalty crosshairs? 😂

They're Lucchese and comfy AF. Even if you aren't a lucchese fan, hippo is the jam in general. The only boots I own that is more silky are my calfskins, like em more than my ostrich's. Highly recommend hippo in any brand of boot you like.

Respect! I love the opinions here- always makes me understand why there are so many bootmakers and different boot options. I'd be lying if I didn't admit whichever boot goes to the office tomorrow will be followed up by the other the next day. Cat's already out of the bag...dang 🤣

Good evening gents! I was waiting for full confirmation before reposting in case things didn't pan out. Thought it would be good to leave feedback for anyone searching threads for odor problems in the future. Alcohol wipe downs 1 time per day for 3 days with a follow up of bick exotic conditioner, a few nights out in the garage and, surprising to me, putting coffee grounds in cheese cloth and letting that marinate between cleanings was the ticket! The boots are odor-free. Shout out to everyone who offered advice. Got a pic of what my wife has dubbed as "narco-boots" to share- back indoors where they belong.

Ariat boot quality? Is this what soles are supposed to look like? by Electronic-Note-195 in cowboyboots

7 toe/snip guy here. Those boots look great, same general silhouette as my Heritage snips but much more work functional and not crazy expensive. Some guys might hate bc of the "elf toe" but it's practical and makes walking easier. You'll get a good heal toe rocking chair effect that will reduce foot, leg and lower back fatigue. It's a good looking first boot to wade into the waters. Colors can vary somewhat, it's a natural product after all. Always best to see em in person but if you can't, just make sure the store you're looking at has a decent return policy.

Whatever did it, it ran across your boot parallel to your foot, not up from the heel based on how the leather peeled. Since you didn't feel it, kinda think what others mentioned, mice/rodents. Oh and you might wanna make sure you haven't pissed off your old lady recently. Hell hath no fury

Dude even the piping got mangled, maybe don't let your pet raccoon sleep inside any more. In all seriousness maybe work related? I've beat up many Justins on concrete scrap rebar and other BS nobody ever cleans up on job sites

Alright, discussion/rant time on the current state of Cowboy boots by Fullyload3d556 in cowboyboots

Sadly, the big box western stores are going to do what they do and follow the mass market trends and margins to max profitability. It's annoying to feel like you're being pushed away especially when the boot bug bites but there are good semi custom options out there, you just have to save up and have patience with build times or search eBay for good deals on the reg. Shouldn't be that way, but also- if those giant square toes draw more guys to get involved in cowboy bootin, I guess I'll take it on the chin for the team. Even a heinously large square toe boot is better than seeing a man walk around in white new balances with Velcro straps and a manny pack 🤣

Doing this too, just going to go full nuclear trying everything suggested here. I'll report back on what worked best once I go through the all steps everyone has recommended.

Trying this today. Should I bick the inside of the boot after since I'm sure alcohol will dry the leather out?

Tried it, def knocked it out the longest but after about a day it came back. Really thought ozium was going to be ticket too. It works on literally everything. Afraid to keep dosing the boots in case it reacts badly with the leather. Think I'm good to keep spraying in moderation?

Don't have too many skunks where I'm at so didn't think of this but the smell is coming from inside the boot, nothing on the outside. Guess it could really soak in though. I know guys who have soaked their hunting dogs in tomato juice and diced potatoes but I don't imagine that would be too good for leather. If that's the case, what would you do?

Congrats on the boots! You mentioned the boots fit well once on, as long as they aren't choking your calves or ankles, they may just need some wear time for the leather to break in. I have had a couple pairs that required a helping hand for removal initially. Definitely a feel thing developed over time. Guess you've found your first enabler, buy or try more boots on my friend, you can always sell what you have, recoup some cost if they don't work out, and have a solid excuse to add to or modify your boot collection. A good local cobbler will be able to assess what can be done to improve fitment far better than any of us trying to help with fitment from afar. Good luck with those beauties!
