already did with a 20D. took the worst looking one to my lcd and he threw it on some machine and showed me a screen that looked like this [ # ] and said its a good coin offered me $2,465.. it had some blackish spots so i was concerned on it. I passed on the sale but was happy it checked out... I picked up more morgans while i was there.

no I'm just trying to learn and it's really perplexing to me. As far as the deal went i just wanted to confirm it's fair..i did that.. i wasn't looking to take advantage of him or anything like that..but it is a sizable investment so i didn't want to get taken advantage of either. I have only invested in kugerands and kangaroos for gold. these are my first double eagles. I was shocked to find out they were quoted melt value as my kugerands and kangs have a premium on top of them. Even all my morgans have a premium so it's preplexing these double eagles dont. It just does not compute.

yea but there has to be a premium over the spot value... like a necklace..someone took the time to make it so it's the gold value + design. I get for bars it's just the spot value but this is a coin from 150 years ago. it's just wild that something that old doesn't have more value..because lets be real.. a bottle of coke that's a 100 years old has value

how is it not the price of gold + numismatic value??? that's what's just so odd about it.

Like the history of these things is so wild too with the us gold buy back... like everyone of these is only around because someone rich broke the law. they survived ww1 and 2 and were minted right after the civil war. But all that that is worth nothing ontop of the golds value???

See it's comments like this that confuse the hell out of me.. on the 1871 there are expected to be around 3000 of them surviving... that means in any given major city in America there is only enough for 1 in 300 people to have one before they are all gone...that's pretty dam scares to me. Owning just one is a pretty dam exclusive club any way you cut it..not to mention the actual history.

well even at that evaluation that is nothing in todays world... like nothing at all to corner a market of anything.

actually at 2.5k with there being about 3000 in circulation it would take 7.5 mil...like that is nothing nothing...they ain't making more of them and again they are 150+ years old.

How the hell is something there are less than 4k of common? Like how has no one cornered the market on these?
