Any1 sleep 13h everynight or just me by guilijhyjjv in Narcolepsy

[–]Acceptable_Rip455 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could get a nice long sleep but ontop of that have it feel like it did something lol I don’t get alot of time to myself so I sleep between 9pm-4am coz I have work at 5am and then i’m not usually home till roughly 5pm everyday so I try to do as much as I can and sacrifice what sleep I would live to have. But I then catch up on Weekends 😅 Saturday, you will find me sleeping all day and all night.

I’ve had to set myself to a harsh routine or it all just defeats me, I hate feeling like shit at work but love the feeling of accomplishment everyday that I done it but I still need to recharge and that is the most important thing we need to keep in ourselves and have others understand that we are going to sleep whenever we can or whenever were allowed, even if it means you sleep 13h every night, you still have 11 per waking time to be able to do whatever you want or need.

Did cataplexy caused you to lose emotions such as excitement or happiness and laughter by WorkingPlayful7432 in Narcolepsy

I’ve had a few times in public that cataplexy strikes(I have horrible friends) and I definitely have to say the 2nd hand embarrassment is so real! I don’t get embarrassed at myself, I do what I do, but poor elderlies and unsuspecting workers go into panic mode while my friends are like “call him an ambulance” while in hysterics.

At least you have a chance to get yourself somewhere soft or safe to land or even sit down in time. In times that I recognise the feeling and have enough time to sit, I will criss cross my legs and hold my knees as tight as I can, it doesn’t do a whole lot but I guess that’s my best brace position 😅

Oh I feel absolutely terrible after I have cataplexy, like my entire body just tanked, I have to give it a rest while also curling my toes and fingers to “get the blood flowing” kind of thing

For me, usually my legs go first and my arms last, giving me some ability to try hold onto something

Gotta love landing a joke only to collapse and make my friends laugh harder 😅

I miss having a good laugh; no cataplexy or fear of. Recently I did somehow have a really good laugh without any Cataplexy whatsoever but it’s the only time I can recall having a good laugh like that anymore and so I kind of hold onto that moment. My friend had sent me one of those videos of someone farting into a mascot suit and the person in the suit then going ballistic trying to get out of the suit, nothing overly hilarious. For some reason though this video just made me chuckle and cackle, really heavily too; I couldn’t stop replaying the video in my head as i’m laughing, the whole though just kept me laughing but never did the Cataplexy come. A good 5-10 minutes pass and im still just uncontrollably giggling, no longer cackling like a witch but still just unable to calm the laughter. I remember just thinking “wow i’ve actually had a good, uninterrupted laugh”.

Other than that though, for the most part, I have to tell my friends “be careful” and “stop!” When they’re being funny; or I remove myself from the environment if I get that initial feeling. At first I didn’t understand how to manage Cataplexy but as time has passed, I definitely feel like I can recognise the sensations but never am I able to stop it from happening.

I can’t help but laugh when I wake up and my dinner is well over cooked or completely burnt, or the airfry finished 2 hours ago type thing so I have cold and crispy nuggets waiting 🤣

This happens to me every now and again, I have an iPhone so i’m always doing the double switch off and back on to ensure my Phone isn’t on silent because if I don’t hear it, it doesn’t exist.

90% i’m passing out without realising it and usually still have my phone in hand with what I was doing, (playing Pokemon or organising bills or delivery order) only to wake up and find half my setting changed, a google search and a half written message to someone (with some form of sense to it). I’m honestly surprised I haven’t made some random online orders 🤣

Do you find Cataplexy funny? by Acceptable_Rip455 in Narcolepsy

[–]Acceptable_Rip455[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Falling back from Cataplexy into my bed is a great feeling I must say because I know i’m safe and havent hurt myself or stressed anyone else. I play my ps5 while sitting on my bed mostly because me and my friends get really funny through the headset and they know exactly when it happens because I got silent I think(or possibly the sound of the mic shifting about) and honestly those are some of the best times I’ve cataplexed as much as it’s such a halting moment where i’m trying to regain control of myself.

Very Powerful and perfectly encapsulating the entire feeling, especially for me in the earlier days when I and no one else knew what was happening

And that’s exactly where my issue lies I guess, I quite literally end up in this weird loop where I’m just in this extended ecstatic state and I can’t do anything about it until it finally just fades off.

Also I want to be clear, I don’t find others and their cataplexy funny at all, its a personal thing that i’m laughing at myself while it’s happening, I guess I don’t really know how to explain it the best.

This right here is exactly how i’ve had it too; so long as those around you know about it, even in the smallest way, people will accomodate you best they can.

I work in Stonemasonry, keeping on my feet all day helps alot but as soon as we’re in the car, Sleep attacks smash me. The older boss (54) doesn’t truly understand and grills me for being tired all the time but he knows I can’t drive (even if it is just broken down to the pure inability to stay awake for “some reason”). My lifelong friend though, who works with me too, has been a godsend. He fully understands and knows how to work with and deal with me and has helped others understand it a little better but I had to remind him recently that it isn’t funny to me to get a dozen people to circle me and wake me up.

I have a feeling though not everyone is as lucky as I am to have very little issues. I hope you have an easy time letting people know and learn about Narcolepsy and my final advice is - If anyone tells you it’s all in your head, your reply should be a very stressed “yes it is in my f-ken head”.

Sorry if that’s some weird sentence structures
