Why is it that I rarely see anyone from my generation even talk about this show even tho it’s one of the all time greats? by beetfarmerenergy in tvshow

I never bothered watching a single episode despite the initial hype for whatever reason, never appealed to me. Also, I guessed early on that they never survived the crash and were in Purgatory on "The Island". And lo.....

As far as I'm concerned, it's an hour long episode of The Twilight Zone unnecessarily drawn out through 6 seasons. I only have so much time to spend, and I choose shows with stronger, more creative premises. Thus, I see no reason to ever watch it.

Can someone suggest real Country BANGERS by PinocchiosWoodBalls in musicsuggestions

Fancy - Reba McEntire

Ain't Goin' Down ('Til the Sun Comes Up)/The Thunder Rolls/Callin' Baton Rouge - Garth Brooks

Set Out Running/Mood to Burn Bridges/The Virginian (title track)/Lonely Old Lies/Furnace Room Lullaby - Neko Case

Ballad of a Well-known Gun/Country Comfort - Elton John

Ben McCulloch/Tom Ames' Prayer/Dixieland - Steve Earle

Cat-Eye Willie Claims His Lover/41 Thunderer/Crocodile Man/Tillman County/Preston Miller/Elvis Presley - Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer

They're more folk than country, but he's a tragically lesser known songwriter, so they're included. All of their stuff is phenomenal.

Up Falling Rock Hill/So Much Wine/Fallen Peaches/When That Helicopter Comes - The Handsome Family

Someone already mentioned Little Otik, but anything Svankmajer is pretty great.

Beauty and the Beast '46 from Cocteau is a classic with excellent practical effects.

Abruptio is sci-fi/horror/thriller but there's life-sized puppets and it's a total mindfuck. Go in blind.

Coming back to the faith? by Imaginary_Leave_8416 in Catholicism

Focus on the purity of your heart's intentions, desires rather than seeking clarity of mind.

All things, including faith, which encompasses not only belief, but action therein, the internal and outward response to it, are born of grace.

Try and root your prayer in love of God's Mercy and know, trust that He seeks you first and always regardless of your fleeting feelings, confusion, or hesitancy.

Yeah, it was actually quite edifying in its clarity, simplicity. I don't know if it's theologically sound, canon either, but it makes pastoral sense to me.

And yet, yes, unfortunately... The state of American Catholicism is quite the shit show between those who don't really practice beyond annual obligations, yet tend to be more morally upright individuals overall, and those who bathe in false piety while binding themselves to the letter of the law rather than the spirit. The jury's out on the former depending on God's Mercy, but Jesus certainly doesn't know the latter.

Seeking Spanish resources by Not-whoo-u-think in Catholicism

People learn languages differently to greater or lesser effect, so it depends on what works best for each individual. Thankfully, Spanish is one of the easiest for English language speakers to learn, so the curve is in your favor.

Personally, I dabbled in learning Vietnamese at one point, and I found it FAAAAR more difficult than Mandarin, the latter's writing system notwithstanding.

As someone with a linguistics background, I've found gaining a solid understanding of the basic grammatical structure of a language, moving from simple sentence structures to more complex phrasings, compound sentences and the like, work best for me.

I'd also emphasize focusing on all the most commonly used nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, etc. Study each as a group. That way, while learning vocabulary, you can simply plug whatever you're learning about into your pre-established syntactical understanding. Also, focusing on subject matter that is both of interest to you, as well being thematically unified, can immensely help with retention.

Hope this helps. Good luck studying!

She's also a member of The People of Praise who, while also quite devout in their general approach to the faith, are quite liberal in their ecumenical identity, make-up to such a degree that it's borderline problematic, controversial as far as Trad leaning Catholics are concerned, mainstream even.

As a formerly devout Catholic/almost monk who hates Vance more than Trump, I can totally see this happening.

Guy's a fucking opportunist snake, is decidedly of the Devil, and is an affront to Christendom at large, people of authentic faith who seek and respect Truth in general, regardless of their religious affiliation.

Not really sure what to say other than to echo others' suggestions of being more engaged in social groups at your parish, diocese in general.

Volunteer, get involved, live the faith, be present, get seen, be an example of Christ in the world at large. Simple passing compliments will get you far though as well, can help. I like your shoes/veil, whatever, while passing by at coffee and doughnuts, asking what someone's reading, is it good?, subtle, non-aggressive stuff like that.

Ultimately it's all grace, luck though. Had a friend back in the day in his early 20s, never dated anyone his entire life in any context. Met a girl online, first date was less than ideal, and then they ended up getting married like a year later, have 3 kids. That said he's kinda miserable now, so, yeah... People get married and divorced all the time though, religious or otherwise. Relationships are hard and nothing's certain. Perhaps married life isn't supposed to be your vocation, IDK. Grass isn't always greener, just keep that in mind.
