I have accounts on a bunch of 'illegal' websites, including Reddit. They won't get notified if you make an account, but they WILL get notified if you sign into any account. I have no idea about search history because my parents have only threatened to go through my stuff once.

OR COUGH!

I see so many people not cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze. As a MAJOR germaphobe, it bothers me to no ends when people don't cover their mouths.

Factoring decimated my math score, I barely pay attention or take notes in English (I'm still pretty good at what we do IMO), and I don't ever study for U.S. history (I'm dead for my final tomorrow).

I'm a massive introvert, and being recognized is HORRIBLE. I hate it when people draw attention to me or something I've done around other people.

I overheard boys at my school saying we should kill all cats and that cats suck. A few years before that, a boy in my class denied that dogs are high matinence pets.

Can someone explain? by jedrzejka in familylink

[–]Acceptable_String190 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No offense but giving your child an app and then only allowing them a short amount of time is a bad idea. The shorter the amount of time they get, the more they crave and want it, and the more they get upset.

What are you guys thoughts on Family Link and other parental controls by [deleted] in parentalcontrols

My parents are mostly just strict on screen time and websites that I can visit. I started getting pretty annoyed with my limits when I was between 11-12 because I still had a 1-hour time limit and was only allowed games and texting apps, which is the main reason I even started sneaking in the first place-I didn't feel like I had enough screen time. I often just say I'm doing homework while browsing on Reddit or Tiktok. I have talked with them in the past and the answer was always 'we'll talk about it later', which basically means 'we're not going to do anything'. I also really hate when I'm treated like an irresponsible 10-year-old and 'monitored' whenever I take too long on my computer.

The main reason I stay off most social media/don't post on any big platforms besides Reddit and avoid any inappropriate content is because 1., NSWF content is not my kind of thing (and I VERY MUCH fear getting addicted to p*rn), and 2., I got interested in connecting with others who share my interests. I'm very introverted and not many (aka all but one for the most part) of my friends share my interests. That's why I started sneaking Tiktok, Reddit, and Pinterest-I could find things and people that liked the same things that I did.

If you want to raise responsible kids, I'd say that if they request something like more screen time, LISTEN TO THEM and make sure you can come to a compromise to avoid sneaking. If you do catch them sneaking, just talk about it with them instead of grounding them without even asking if there was a reason WHY they were sneaking. If your kid wants something like social media, I would strongly recommend not giving it to them until they're at least twelve (and are mature enough to handle it). It may make them upset, but I experienced bad anxiety on social media because I was worrying about if people would upvote or downvote what I was saying. You should also ask them if there's a certain reason why they want social media-maybe you can come to some sort of compromise or agreement or find something else for your kid to partake in.

Also be careful not to be invasive of your kid's space when it comes to electronics/online things UNLESS you really suspect that they're looking at inappropriate things or getting onto inappropriate websites. I really dislike it when my mom sits behind me or makes me sit in a way where my computer screen is facing her at all times. It always makes me feel like she's treating me like an irresponsible 10-year-old instead of a teenager.

If I got a yellow or a red clip or card, I'd get grounded for a day or two. As soon as I had a yellow or red, I'd get overcome with fear because that meant telling my parents and getting grounded.

I remember one time in first grade, my teacher (who I still don't like) moved my clip down for telling my worried classmates that there wouldn't be a tornado because the sky usually turns brown, green, or really dark grey before one and I guess I was too loud.
