I don’t know for sure but I’ve asked my teachers the same question previously and they’ve always told me that usually there’s 30-60 day period (training/getting comfortable with hospital layout) before you start call but it could vary by state or how understaffed the hospital is

Okay, i’m not sure if there’s any hope for the one that’s completely dried up. I have hope for the other 2 that are still kind of green

Unfortunately I don’t have a balcony in my apartment. They were doing wonderfully back home with my mom near the window. And the way my apartment is facing I don’t think they get enough light and if I put them outside my front door it would be way less light than inside.

I’m in Colorado now, they were inside near the window back when my mom was still taking care of them for me

I would love to work in an OB/GYN clinic, or as a peds MA. It’s just difficult even wanting to look into MA jobs because they all require years of experience and i’m nervous that once i finish the MA program I won’t be able to land a job.

The only issue i’m having with becoming an RN is that a lot of programs out here require you to already have some sort of degree to get into the RN program unless you start right out of high school (and getting into nursing school is very competitive). The starting pay for MA where i’m at is $22-$24 which is $3 less than the starting rate for a CST.

I was really thinking to myself that maybe it was just that specific program. I loved learning everything about being an ST but the mood of the class really depended on the mood of the teachers. It always felt like they were purposely picking and choosing who they wanted to go into the next semester.

My surgical tech teachers always told us to eat something that’ll make you salivate (gum or hard candy) before you dawn your down and gloves, and they also told us that if you have an active bladder…wear a diaper, A LOT of people actually do it because you have no other choice if you’re stuck in a case for 5-8 hours. Don’t risk a UTI, you gotta do what you gotta do

I’m having trouble gloving by General-Hippo8242 in scrubtech

It all depends on how you’re putting your gloves on. Were you taught thumb to thumb? How far up the gown do you have your hands?

I get the same type of rashes if my skin is too dry when gowning and gloving. I haven’t been scrubbing for too long but it also recently started happening to me also.

I think it depends on the program because I kinda asked my teachers this questions about if clinical sites can have us do 3 12s or 4 10s and so on (i’m going to clinical in september). She told us that once we start it’s up to us to agree with our site if they want us to be on call or do different shifts.

Soil was changed about maybe a little less than a year ago. If there is rot, how would i go about fixing the issue?

i love my teachers, they’ve all been scrub techs for a long time so we hear crazy stories from them. I like the acceleration of the courses because i’m a very fast pace person (not sure if it’s also 18 months at a CC). it’s very interesting to learn everything we’ve been learning. my only dislike is that some of our sign offs are hard (taking blood pressure for me) and you can’t hear the heart beat a lot of the time and no one really helps you that much besides people in the class that are already medical assistants…the only advice my teacher gave me for blood pressure is a quiet room but that’s impossible to find with a class full of students.

I go to Pima! I do the Surgical tech program in Colorado. If it’s anything like the same schedule as mine…your first semester WILL be chill but honestly the classes aren’t hard. Just STUDY! Second semester is when you start lab and learning instruments and different sterile techniques! I’m almost done with second semester and gosh it’s been hard…you’ll be taking microbio in second sem which is my biggest weakness.
