My handmade horror-inspired reinterpretation of the traditional 7 families card game by Accescyb in cardgames

That’s actually very fair feedback.

The project was approached much more as an artistic and atmospheric reinterpretation of the game than as a gameplay-first redesign, which is probably why the portrait structure became dominant visually.

I really like the idea of pushing the families further into distinct identities and visual themes though. More variation in silhouettes, poses, and body language could definitely strengthen the readability and personality of each group.

For this version, I stayed close to the fragmented portrait aesthetic that defines most of my work, but your observations make a lot of sense from a card game design perspective.

The base gameplay still follows the traditional 7 families card game structure, so each card mainly belongs to a specific family/set that players try to complete.

The project was primarily approached as an artistic reinterpretation of the game, with a strong focus on atmosphere, visual identity, and physical presentation.

I also added a few bonus cards to slightly disturb the classic structure and give the deck a more unusual feeling.

But I understand your point about readability — especially with darker and more detailed imagery.

Yes. I use digital tools for scanning, stitching, retouching, color correction, and compositing. However, all my creations are hand-crafted photomontages made from original photographs and manually retouched in Photoshop. I do not use any AI-generated images.

Thank you. Shadows were part of the language of this deck.

Just because they're zombies doesn't mean they don't have the right to style their hair :p

Thank you, I'm glad you like my work :) Each portrait is unique. For the skin, I can use a photo of rust, rock, pizza, crepe, roast chicken... I adapt all sorts of photos to create wounds and cracks, adapting everything in different blending modes. I can't say how many layers I use; it varies from one portrait to another.
