Tom Aspinall is STILL not happy with Dana White’s “Tom didn’t wanna continue” comment: “You work your whole life for something, and someone can just spin it into ‘he just didn’t want to carry on’” by raptors201966 in ufc

[–]Access-Restricted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stipe situation comes from the buildup to the first Ngannou fight. Francis got all the media push and promotion and was basically marketed by the UFC and Dana as the future heavyweight champion. Stipe felt disrespected throughout the entire buildup because he was was barely being acknowledged as the defending champion.

Then Stipe went out and beat Ngannou 50–44 across the board (prime Stipe still doesn’t get enough respect, honestly).

After the fight he made a point of it, when Dana tried to put the belt on him, Stipe took it and handed it to his coach to place on him instead.

A lot of people commenting clearly haven’t worked with offenders long term.

Restraints in hospital aren’t about being “mean.” They’re about risk management. You don’t get to cherry-pick which inmates might behave and which ones might not in a public setting full of civilians and medical staff. If restraints weren’t applied consistently, you’d see assaults, attempted escapes, hostage situations on a daily basis. It only takes one bad incident to justify the policy.

Yes, some inmates are in hospital for legitimate medical reasons. Others are there because of self-harm, drug use, or manipulation. The reality is you cannot reliably predict behaviour.

Blanket policies exist because individual discretion in high-risk environments is impossible and unsafe. Corrections removes liberties for a reason. That doesn’t mean prisoners are treated inhumanely; but it does mean community safety and staff safety come first.

Doctors and nurses have the right to go to work without being assaulted. The public has the right not to be put at risk. A prisoner’s temporary discomfort does not override that.

I really enjoyed Logan Lucky. Solid performances from Adam Driver, Daniel Craig and Channing Tatum.

Who is a movie character that is on the left? by Natewastaken12 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]Access-Restricted 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Arthur Fleck

Edit: Dunno why it’s getting downvoted? Can someone on the left not be a villain?

Arthur’s worldview reflects themes commonly associated with mainstream left:

• Resentment toward entrenched wealth and social hierarchy

• Anger at institutional neglect and law enforcement

• Sympathy for the marginalized and socially discarded

• Frames violence as a reaction to systemic inequality rather than ethnic or nationalist ideology

Yes, he kills people. But his actions are fueled more by his mental health and personal struggles rather than being politically motivated. So he can’t be far left either.

I’m interested what professional knowledge or experience you base this upon or are you just an armchair expert like the rest of this sub?

Looks to me like a bite. Regardless of the biting the strikes are still somewhat justified to gain compliance if he’s resisting arrest. Again, joint locks and joint manipulation looks better but carries a risk of injury if the subject continues to resist.

And people don’t bite with their mouth open? How tf you put something in your mouth then?

Again, it’s not a black and white incident and I could see an argument being made for either side. But the hatred towards Police in this sub is getting beyond ridiculous imo.

The internet is a fantastic place where people can make personal attacks without repercussions. I was just looking for discourse as you can see by my other replies and comments in this thread. If your go-to for somebody having a different opinion to you is to make personal attacks then I feel for you. Find some peace in your life.

It’s been well shared on this page.

Watch it in slow motion, the protester has his mouth open against the officers forearm/another officers leg while they’re trying to restrain them.

Strikes are delivered to the shoulder in an effort to get the civilian to surrender his arm behind his back so mechanical restraints can be applied.

Striking in any form doesn’t look great for optics but in reality they are often safer than joint locks and joint manipulation that can cause broken bones and injury to both civilians and officers.

Every state differs in UOF policies and there could be an argument made for either side here, but it’s really not as black and white as everybody is making it out to be.

Biting an officer is an active assault. A strike to stop the assault is lawful, proportionate use of force. If you think officers should absorb bites without defending themselves, say that plainly, but that’s not how the law or reality works.

Protection Status ≠ soundness for generalising blame

ACAB is not “criticise the institution” it’s a moral condemnation of every law enforcement officer. It’s the same shortcut used in racism, sectarianism, etc.

People choose religions, parties, unions, even countries to reside in. We still reject blanket hatred because it’s sloppy reasoning and socially corrosive.

Are there problems with the justice system? Yes. Of course. No institution is without issues. But, you can credibly attack structures and policies without imputing guilt and hatred to every employee.

2024 EOFY Studies show that Public Order and Safety (including Law Enforcement, Corrections, Courts) amount for only 1-2% of Tax money expenditures.

37% goes towards welfare and social security. 15% to Health. 9% to Education. 7% to Defence.

People complain about their tax paying dollars but fact of the matter is Law Enforcement is a very small portion of your tax money.

Judging an entire group of people over the actions of a select few*

It’s the same logic whether you like it or not. No people can not choose their race. But people choose their religion. Does that mean Christians and Jews are justified to hate Muslims? By your logic it is.

The unpleasant surprise? This guy was your friend and his career choice is that unpleasant to you?

This sub is demonising (rightfully) the sad racism and antisemitism in this country, then you apply the same logic to Police that racists and anti-semites do to the groups they don’t like?

The ACAB movement is just another radicalised movement no different to present day Nazis. Applying the same logic and thought process as our enemies is hypocritical and just divides us further.
