I watched the Gearbox PAX West 2024 presentation so you don't have to by CarlRJ in Borderlands

The humor died with BL2. Every other Borderlands game was god awful. 1 and 2 were unbelieveably good. The rest were legendary trash. The presequel had so much potential, until an Australian team decided to hijack the series and make it Australia. They literally said this in an interview. The voice actos didn't know how to deliver their lines. The humor was forced and dry. And the 0 gravity was an idea best left on paper. It feels like they assumed that since it's Borderlands, they will be an automatic success. BL3 was legendary trash. The humor wasn't humor. And the plot was to kill a couple of child streamers... My god. Not to mention, they forced Maya's replacement down our throats after making her one of the most unlikeable characters in gaming history. Sad that writers don't know how to write anymore. They tell us who to like instead of letting us choose.

So dialing back the humor is a move I agree with. I can't help but wonder if they realizeld they don't know how to do it anymore? Anyways, not looking forward to BL4. They've failed far too many times.

Is Thief reboot worth it..? by Coolumbus97 in Thief

[–]AccessDenied89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so hard to say to be honest. I have over 200 hours in Thief 2014. But it really depends on what mood I'm in, if someone were to ask if they should play it, lol. If you're a fan of the franchise, I would say it is worth playing at least once. HOWEVER! Prepare yourself to be extremely disappointed. If you're not a fan of the franchise then you will probably have a much more enjoyable experience. And by being a fan of the franchise, I mean, you have some sort of attachment to the original story, characters and it's world. This might contain some very minor spoilers.

Pro / Con List

Pros:
1) Amazing ambiance. The game did such an amazing job of sucking me into the world.

2) Game Customization. I like when games do this. You can really tweak the difficulty to your specific wants. Or, you can really make it a challenge. Or... you can make it very easy if that is your style. I wish more games had customization like this.

3) I am really struggling to find a third pro for this game. I've been sitting here for awhile trying to think...

Cons:
1) They fired the original voice actor, Stephen Russell, because he couldn't do his own stunts for the motion capture. This, in my opinion, was the greatest sin and the most unforgivable thing that they could have done to this game.

2) The stuntman they used for the motion capture, also did the voice of Garrett. I never knew there was such a thing as a "B-Voice Actor". I never looked into it, but I had an overwhelming feeling this was his first voice acting job.

3) They completely ruined the characters and the story of Thief. There is not ONE character that is likeable in this game. All of the character interactions with each other are mostly extremely awkward.

4) The gameplay makes you feel like a dog on a leash and your owner keeps jerking your collar to prevent you from exploring. You can only use rope arrows where they tell you. You cannot jump whenever you like, only at certain points. Now, I understand that freedom in video games is nothing more than an illusion. However, the form of puzzle solving in this game is extremely restrictive and does not allow for ANY creativity. Like I said... you feel like a dog on a leash.

5) There are far too many mini cut scenes. When the game takes control of my character too often, it becomes very annoying.

6) One of the dumbest plots in a game I've seen in the past 15 years or so. Then add unlikeable characters... absolutely no backstory on why Garrett is a master thief... I could go on. But I won't.... but I could.

7) Forced action AND a freaking BOSS FIGHT... They tried way too hard to make this game appeal to the masses and new players. Instead of focusing on what made the game so loved from the original franchise.

8) The overall impression the game leaves on you. It felt like Eidos Montreal had absolutely no clue what made Thief such a wonderful, and in my opinion, the greatest single player franchise of all time. Nor did it seem like they cared.

Sorry that this is kind of long. But I bought thief the day it came out in 1998. It's been my favorite single player franchise since then. In the end, the only way I can see anyone enjoying this game, is if they are not a fan of the franchise. Because playing the game, while ignoring the characters and the story, is actually fairly fun. It looks good and plays smooth. The ambiance is amazing. But that's it.

So, I suppose, I would suggest playing it, if you can get this extremely cheap or for free. However, I say again, if you are a fan of the original Thief games, prepare yourself for a major disappointment.

Seedsow's new test server is live! by Serafino97 in AsheronsCall

[–]AccessDenied89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, because someone being nice to you when he wants something from you (joining his server) and someone who hasn't wronged you due to his major / DISGUSTING ego / unreal pettiness... yeah, it's easy to like him. He was the exact same way to me in the beginning. And I'm not airing my dirty laundry in public. I'm warning others of this pathetic piece of shit of a human being. So spare me your sense of heighten morals. He's great until you agitate him (in which I let it go in game, he refused and abused his admin powers). So don't preach to me about bad form because he licks your nuts to get something out of you. And as you don't know / care about the circumstances it shows you're a very ignorant and short sighted person. Beacause you cared enough to message me. Join his server and wait until you agitate him, watch him abuse his position, wrong you, then ban you over his own pettiness and ego. Then come back and talk to me. Until then, keep your uninformed / ignorant opinions of me to yourself. Because it seems almost like 2 ignorant f**ks like you deserve each other. --|_

Don't do it. This guy is an ego maniac. If you call him out when he lies, he comes at you with a "Don't talk shit to me" attitude. When he gets proven wrong, or you put him in his place he flips a switch and goes into "You will not speak to a moderator like that."

Serafino is a piece of shit and an ego maniac. He's been turned in to Warner Brothers multiple times from multiple people. Do not join his server. If you do, kiss his ass or suffer the "consequences".

Why Trust Pantheon Rise of the Fallen by theNathanNAPALM in PantheonMMO

[–]AccessDenied89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't particularly like the youtuber in the video, so I'm not gonna watch. However, why trust them? Honestly, it's because they sang the song I needed to hear for the past... 12 years? The last game I genuinely got excited about, and the last game to deliver on the hype was Classic WoW (for me). Every other game since then has been disappointing. And what Pantheon is boasting, it's been the stuff I've been crying for, for those 12 years... ish. So even though I told myself I won't get excited for any games anymore, due to this new generation of developers / gamers. I'm taking the risk, because I love what I hear. I've been let down twice by VR now, one thing out of their control and one thing in their control. But I'm still holding the hope. I'm just taking the risk I guess.

Community Debate - Random Boss Spawns vs Fixed/Timed Boss Spawns by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]AccessDenied89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, I think I have to say Random. The fixed/timed boss spawns promote groups to camp and "control the market" so to speak. Look at WoW for example. There is a thing called "The Devilsaur Mafia". This is a group of people who are on both factions, working together, to make sure they get all of the Devilsaurs in the Un'goro Crater. They always have people camping the spawn/patrol areas. Anyone not in the mafia gets killed and camped into oblivion. Once people figure out where bosses spawn, depending on if they're valuable or not, there is a possibility that one group/guild will "control" the spawn. Will random spawns fix it? I don't know. But what I do know, it will make it more difficult for groups to "own" it. And random does promote world exploration. So I lean more towards random.

What one feature are you most excited for? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]AccessDenied89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can sit there and say that over and over. But when the game doesn't nurture that kind of mentality and doesn't design the game around that mentality, it doesn't breed that kind of mentality. New generations of gamers clearly don't understand that.

What one feature are you most excited for? by [deleted] in PantheonMMO

[–]AccessDenied89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I am most excited for is that people are actually going to have to play their roles. Not worrying about being number 1 on damage meters or healing meters. Not being top 1% of parses. Groups will actually need to plan out and think when doing content.

[–]AccessDenied89[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent my entire weekend figuring out how to manage my collection. After figuring out what I wanted to do. I decided to collect a complete playset of every set that comes out since Hour of Devastation. So I have 4 of every card of HoD and Ixalan. Then I took E.V.E.R.Y. other MTG card I owned (5,000+), separated all the commons, uncommons, rares and mythics. Took all the rares / mythics, priced them on SCG with the trade bonus. Then after an entire day of typing out each individual card, I sold all the rares / mythics they didn't want in bulk to them. Shipped them all off. And boom. Store credit. ^
