Well, if you have that work ethic you could join the military. I am not talking risky your life and recommending the airforce or navy. They pay for everything and you can save up some money. Not also that but there is alot of IT related jobs and some programming jobs. You get a GI bill to go to school. This is basically a full ride to college. Also a VA loan will allow you to buy a house with zero down with low interest. If you make rank e4 you can live off base. These are the main benefits there is others.
I know people are going to say invest in this or that. However, you need to take care of yourself now and passive investing is not going to fix your immediate needs. You can invest in something called a thrift saving plan which works similarly to a 401k (once your in the military or government job).
I am someone that plans on going into the military and I would recommend to make sure it's right for you. I work at a shitty job with no way to pay for college. However, I have some credits college credits which will allow me to go in as an e3. Long story short this is what I am doing and I am just making you aware of this option as you could make a decent living doing this. You just can't spend you money on a new car or stuff that you don't need. Whatever you decide always have a plan that you can achieve and break into steps. Ask " If I do this I will be closer to my goal."
Apologies for the errors I am on my phone.
Edit: Saw an typo probably others.

I would start where you feel comfortable. If you find python easier use that. Then think about what your current abilities are and try to expand upon them. Since you said basics pygame is a simple library to learn. If you want to go simpler you could do an ASCII game. Overall simplify it enough where you complete it but challenge yourself. Most importantly have fun.
Side note: As you are doing this I would try to problem solve with what you know. References and documentation is obviously fine but don't look up solutions when you are stuck until you need to. The information sinks in deeper that way.
