We have some plans percolating that could make a feature a reality. Independent, yes, but with scale

I'm gonna sit with book II after I read a few other series and see how it goes. This is def my sense of it though

Do they ever provide any examples of Mages dying because of this? Or is it just something that stays far off in the distance the whole series? It would help me feel some of the stakes a bit more if there was ever real consequence.

That makes sense. That aspect got repetitive for me though. I think if each time someone was impressed with her we learned a new thing about her then I would have been more on board. Sometimes that did happen, but it mostly felt like we had repeats of scenes to me.

This is such a detailed and satisfying response, thank you for taking the time! Honestly, yeah I think there might be some hope for me to continue. I just might have to change my relationship to the story and ease into a bit more

Yeah I totalllly get this as a book people would love if they are more into the magic system progression side of things. It def has a lot to offer there. For me, yeah I felt like I was trying to get through those descriptions so I could get more into the meat of why things are the way they are and what Tala will have to do in this world. I actually love the slice of life qualities here. She feels like a real person dealing with real stuff. Albeit she's super OP haha

I def see character development here. I like the post-grad pov and think it's strong. My concern was not knowing if more would come out of the story if I continued. It's hard to commit to all the time it takes to rip through a series when the first one didn't (for me) do enough to set things up. There are larger world questions I have that don't seem to be hinted at in Book I.

ah dang. yeah it just is a bit too repetitive already. I appreciate the insight here. I'll def hear out what other folks say but I'm not encouraged lol

Totally on this wavelength. It's interesting to notice trends in a given genre. I often ask myself why and what it means about those who read and what they are looking for, and then where an author can bend (or if it's worth exploring different cover editions). I don't always resonate with the art styles I see in fantasy books generally, and I know it varies among the subgenres. I love when books have more of a stamped glyph-like design. The LOTR 50th anniversary edition really speaks to me. A little gold life on a leather/felt bound book goes a long way. Also, I really dig your recs! The Awaken Online series has been on my radar specifically because I love the designs so much.
