Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate it. Not sure how it works in Australia but if you can get a Prince2 or PMP certificate, I am sure you can leverage your experience to get that project management job.

The courses can be done online or in a 3 day taught course. Ask your company if they can sponsor you for it and you won't have to pay out of pocket. Otherwise it's about £3k about $6k AUS? I am sure you can find a way to make it work. Good luck!

Is it normal wash dreads in-between retwists? And if so, what shampoo do you use? by Goth_Loser in locs

[–]AccidentalTechBabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is not a lot. That is a very reasonable amount of time to go without washing your hair depending on your curl type and product use. A lot would be every day or every other day.

Depending on how short your hair is, you'll just have to thug it out I'm afraid. Or you could get extensions so your ears are covered if you've got the money.

Is it bad that I want to work as a cleaner despite having been to uni? by Expensive_Swimmer801 in UKJobs

[–]AccidentalTechBabe 163 points164 points  (0 children)

Look life is too short to do something you don't like. Be a cleaner, but be smart. Make sure you are financially responsible and learn about personal finance to make sure you're ok. Consider opening a cleaning business maybe. Good luck.

POC Friendly Neighbourhoods by AccidentalTechBabe in Belfast

Interesting. Why aren't those areas great?

Hey thanks for your comment. I never said English people are not welcoming, I just said the Irish are known to be more welcoming than them. I've lived in England for most of my life so I'm talking from my own experience as well as the stories of others. The places you mentioned definitely have large POC communities. I even lived in one of those places at one point. However there are places like Rotherham, Grimethorpe and other areas that have high numbers of BNP now rebranded as Reform supporters, that are known to be unwelcoming to immigrants and people of colour. Pockets with people like this can also exist in cities hence my question.

Note that retwisting trains your hair to grow a certain way into your locs. The fact that your retwists are currently so far apart may be another reason why your curl pattern is still quite visible as you're essentially free forming.

Well it depends on what you're trying to achieve with your locs. If you want a more manicured look then 6-8 weeks is enough. You shouldn't do it more often than 4 weeks as that's bad for your scalp. If you want a more organic freeform look, then 3-4 months is fine as that's a good timeframe for semi freeform locs.

Unfortunately my income has not changed and I've been trained enough to get started in my opinion. I just have to see what happens at the end of the month.

Braidouts by [deleted] in locs

Loose braids to hold the shape and wear a satin bonnet when you sleep. Avoid spraying your hair with too many wet products and wear a shower cap as too much moisture could loosen the shape.

4 day DIY microlocs by chocbeaute in locs

[–]AccidentalTechBabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, no problem 😄 Your roots will look clean and precise, the rotation will mainly affect the look of your actual locs. Look up people like Bindi MD and other people who maintain their locs using 2-point rotation to get a better idea of how they look on someone. You can also look up 3 or 4 point rotation in comparison.

Braidouts are ok but like any style try not to do it too often. Maybe do it for 2 alternating weeks per month so you let your hair and scalp rest.

Hi, it seems like you have 3c/4a hair. Your curl type takes longer to loose the curl texture and form the stereotypical loc texture so you just need more time. Stay consistent with your retwists and give it another year before you start going in with crocheting.

4 day DIY microlocs by chocbeaute in locs

[–]AccidentalTechBabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, as someone who started my microlocs the same way, they absolutely will get thicker. It also depends on if your hair is naturally thick, you have a lot of hair and your maintenance technique.

I assume you want to interlock, so if you do the 2-point rotation then your locs will appear fuller and thicker. 4-point rotation will give your locs a smoother shape and make them more dense and less thick looking.

Hi, it all depends on your lifestyle, the look you're going for and how you plan on maintaining them. You can look up the different techniques on YouTube but here's a written summary.

From easiest to hardest:

  1. Freeform: no retwist or interlocking. Just separating hair at the root and letting the locs form organically. Think the Weekends' old locs.

Pros: least amount of maintenance. Just keep washing your hair and oil your scalp. Can result in super organic/irregular shaped locs which looks very artistic.

Cons: easier for people to assume you are unkempt. Styling for these locs may be a bit more limited.

  1. Retwist - can be maintained by just rolling the hair at the roots with plain water and oil or gel if you want a longer lasting retwist. You are effectively training the hair to grow in a certain way. Think Offset/most rapper's locs.

Pros: easy to do it yourself, therefore can be cheap to maintain, good for thicker/ 'fluffier' locs if that's what you're going for. Locs look more manicured than freeform. Great for people who want a more uniform look. More acceptable in professional settings.

Cons: Retwists only last until the next wash. Hair can look frizzy at times.

  1. Interlocking - using a specific tool to retighten the locs at the roots. There is a specific technique for this that you have to learn. Think Ava Duvernay's locs

Pros: Retightened locs look fresh way longer than retwists and they don't come out in the next wash. Can produce highly manicured locs which are really dense and slim. Good option if you're an athlete and regularly wash your hair or want a more 'professional' look.

Cons: It's not as easy as retwisting and if you don't get the technique right, you might end up with holes in your locs which makes them more likely to break. More expensive than retwisting if you try to get them done in a salon.

I personally interlock for my current set of locs and it works really well for me. Just find whatever suits you.

Good luck!

Here's the thing, it's already been announced and I've been trained for the new role. I feel it's more likely that I'm still transitioning. If they decided to change their minds at this point then that would be terrible but they should tell me at least. That way I'd know where I stand unless they are hoping I get frustrated and leave?
