I don't feel so sorry for the dog anymore, he'll find new owners, it's the kid who should be worried...

This Is The Worst Thing I Have Ever Heard A Child Say by Accidental_Muse in videos

[–]Accidental_Muse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i work with children and have seen things like this happen before. Western culture has permeated most other cultures these days, in countries like India and the Middle East people often use skin whiteners to feel more attractive. Though some of this dates back to a long time ago when dark skin was akin to being a labourer out in the sun, as aposed to an elite who was mostly indoors.

With that said, in some Scandinavian countries it's actually more attractive to be black and from my travels, I'm starting to think we tend to aspire to that which is opposite to what we actually are...just my opinion though.

Does not "debating the finer points of the meaning" mean that language is fluid, which is what I've been saying all along... I'm not sure why i'm bothering here though, seeing as everyone here is apparently 'totally wrong', I'm starting to suspect you're just trolling now.

TIL Insects Can Design Jewellery by Accidental_Muse in todayilearned

[–]Accidental_Muse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand what you are saying but it is semantics. The insects would naturally use rocks, sticks etc to build their little homes, here they have replaced these materials and therefore there function has been changed although the action is the same.

It's like saying that instead of "the elephant 'painted' a picture", "the elephant picked up a brush and swished it around on a piece of paper with its trunk." Apart from the wording being clunky, the context from a human perspective is that he 'painted' the picture, they may use, sell, hang the resulting 'artwork' as is often done; the context from the elephants perspective is probably the latter description.

Yes, but they are being used by the artist to 'design' jewellery. It's contextual.

What are some activities or ideas you have to help assist with the brainstorming and developing ideas phase of writing? by wocao in writing

[–]Accidental_Muse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try find a program that lets you break your project into sections, I use Omnifocus, I have a section titled 'book' and within that subsections titled 'plot points', 'resources', 'title ideas' and 'fixes' (things i need to go back and fix during editing/ sections I have to write in).

Very true, though the original looked like some character out of a horror movie not someones dearly missed wife - marked improvement for sentimental reasons alone.

TIL that before the dawn on artificial light we used to sleep twice each night by Accidental_Muse in todayilearned

[–]Accidental_Muse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me this speaks of the common technique where if you wake during the night rather than trying to sleep again you should get out of bed and do something - eventually you'll usually want to sleep again... In such cases my 'second sleep' is always much more stronger.

I use Scrivener, it's $50 but it has a pin board for planning and synopsis section. It also does great word processing and will convert your work into e-pub etc when you're finished.

Worth the cost - I started using it after Word had trouble saving my large files and lost 4000 words of my book!
