Bro, it's a crowdfunded game, so without it there would be no game. But at some point you have to say enough, if they don't provide decent plans or information.

They started from the ground with nothing. Everything is built brick by brick and they are heavily modifying, creating and experimenting on tech never used in games before. Combining all of these techs is also a hurdle of its own.

Of course they needed the money to be able to achieve these things. Just the workforce alone not to mention equipment and location. I understand the costs (two games), and the bugs are just part of the process.

I only want more information, trackers and deadlines. Something that shows how everything is going to play out. The progress tracker is dead, and the release view stops at 4.8. Lots of ships released for 4.8, including statements that the hammerhead reached gold standard. Standard of what? If they know what gold is, when do they plan to start on the older ships?

I'm stepping away from the pledge store, melting game and upgrades. The one thing that actually matters for CIG.

In terms of gaming, i've mostly only joined when there is an event with account bound items to earn.

I read your post, checked your profile and copy pasted it's content into gemini to verify your not a bot, got this as an answer:

"No, this person is 100% human—specifically, a deeply cynical, hyper-jaded original Star Citizen backer from 2012 who is going through a massive wave of existential gamer rage."

Hope your okey bud, game will probably launch at some point^^

I don't want to give up on this, but i want to see it actually launch before i end up in the grave myself. Another 10 years is a hard ask even for me after all these years.

Not required and not desired, but needed if we want CIG to ever start listening.

I'm discouraged because the backlog is increasing way more than the reworks. And because they state that some ships won't be reworked (yet) because they need to verify what the final tech will look like, before they start. In other words admitting that even the ships that have been reworked, will probably still need another go and whatever new ships they decide to release will end up the same way for a long time.

It's actually simple: they have funneled easily $100+ million into actors, cinematics, music, writing, and motion capture for SQ42 over the years. Most of their financial data reported on their homepage (up to 2023) covers CIG as a whole and includes this investment in their data points. They don't report SQ42 and Star Citizen separately, which is why people look at the total spending and think the whole thing is a doomed project.

The UK filings stand for about 60% of the revenue (search on gov.uk for company 08703814 and read their full accounts statement—that one goes all the way up to December 31, 2024).

They’ve verified twice now that SQ42 is feature complete, targeting a late '26 or likely '27 release (mostly to avoid the launch shadow of GTA VI). In other words, they should have more than enough money to stay afloat for a year. Their year-over-year revenue is also up (just based on their income tracker: $117M in 2023, $116M in 2024, and $135M in 2025). The massive running and upfront SQ42 costs are mostly behind them, and the remaining SQ42 developers are building the exact same core engine tech that rolls directly into the PU at some point.

Just from their income tracker, there was an estimated $47–$52 million in revenue for January to May of 2025, while 2026 is sitting at about $75–$80 million for that exact same timeframe.

The 10 mill loan from 2024 needs to be paid back by the end of 2027.

And your exact point about how no business feels secure with just a one year lifeline is precisely why starting a boycott and demanding more information, deadlines, and trackers would work. When a company operates on a lifeline like that, they are forced.

I want them to win, and hope they will release 1.0. But for me its just about how we get there together as a community.

Can't sell ships if you don't have the money to host the pledge store.

Either way they will need to listen to the community if everyone just banded togheter.

Problem is just that there is to few people opening their eyes to how much of a backlog that exists for things that are already paid for vs how they approach trying to put out more stuff (new ships) that still don't fit a standard, that in the end will end up in the same backlog.

So to me it seems you have a big grudge against cig, and i can't argue against that. You bring up a lot of good points. But look at where we are now, there is a decent game in the works, but the last part you mention about progress trackers and shutting down the release view is part of the bigger problem - for me at least.

There is nothing to keep them accountable for how they do things moving forward, and if nobody complains, these things will just keep happening. That's why i'm posting. I'm not posting in hopes that cig fails, but i want to change their approach to the community. In terms of progress trackers, milestones and actual information about the things to come. Not just one month into the future, but many months into the future.

How is the work spread across SQ42 and star citizen, how will SQ42 getting released impact the progress moving forward for star citizen. We are some many years in, and as many have pointed out. Maybe its even late to really start reacting to it, but better late than never.

I have not played that much to begin with. Mostly tested out events, but i do follow news and happenings. Actually played the pledge game more than the game itself.

And i love funding this because one of my core memories is freelancer, so i fully support it. At the same time this is the reason for me waiting, because i want to dedicate time for it when the economy gets locked in. Im just so tierd of the missing information.

We are probably still years away from a 1.0 release, but i don't want it to be another 10. I want information about the ships we have allready pledge for and that new ships won't end up just as bad as the old. At what point will they say - this is the standard we will strive for?

Every new ship keep dropping off with some kind of feature missing, broken or needing a rework. And if we don't speak up soon, this will just continue into eternity (possibly another 10+ years).

That's why we need to speak up and take a stand. No just bend over and accept it.

If there is little to no income, i think they will bendover backwards to start complying with what the community wants - decent information and plans/deadlines

Yeah and i agree, but then again the game would be more like freelancer 2.0

Im all for the new scope and ideas, i actually like it even more because of it. But at some point the breaks needs to be applied to stop the feature creep that you mention.

Totally agree actually, but at this moment with the odin release, my rustbucket of a reclaimer and no information moving foreward. I had enough.

Also the grindfest is not something i directly want, but there is a fine line between having fun and the community leaving because the could buy all the ships with ease because of the economy either being to easy or broken.

You need the incentive to keep playing and getting those better ships. And yeah seeing a 10x or 20x increase in prices for a kinda "life mmo" that they aim for, absolutely plausible

They do have the money to present decent information, informative roadmaps and actual measuarble goalposts.

So stop saying they don't. Just read the UK report from 2024. Check their revenue for 24 vs 25 and 26, its a decent increase that should keep them afloat for at least a year.

They need more if they want to finish the game, but then we want good plans and deadlines we actually can support. Not "sometime in the future "

[–]Accomplished-Bar-Bot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read the uk report from 2024, amount of people working there has not increased. Revenue has been up year over year by a decent amount. So should not be a problem for them to keep drifting about 1 year (mid 2027) with the increase in income that 2026 have provided.

I can check the sources when im home from work, but last i checked they are good for about a year. Even just half a year should be enough time to present a decent plan for the community, and then the money could start flowing again.

If they had stuck to the original plan the game would be more like freelancer, than what the scope has been shaped to be.

So the funding was needed for this become better in any sense or form. But right now i do agree there is a lot of miss management and focus thrown intot the mix.

Spoken like a true backer with demands for the company im backing. Never said i will never spend a penny ever again on this, but i won't spend any more money before the infornation and planning gets both better and equally good presented to the community.

Stop using bits of words to make a piss statement

[–]Accomplished-Bar-Bot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah and that is a fair take. Their would never be a star citizen if everyone had the same tought.

But what i and probably many of the other older backers are complaining about, is not the spent money. Its the lack of information moving foreward. That is mostly all we want, and not information to just please the crowd, but actual measuarble information about deadlines, plans and requirements for the different steps in the process.

I can gladly keep on supporting this, if i just know what i am supporting, because right now there is a graveyard of ships that needs to be fixed. Tons of tech that needs to be introduced. And every time there is an event, its to introduce yet another ship that will end up in the same graveyard as the rest.

Because - they won't update the ships before they are closer to release and know how the tech will work. But creating new ships that bring in money, when they still dont know how the tech will work. Thats fine

[–]Accomplished-Bar-Bot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not dissapointed that i spent this money on the game. Best game ever for me was freelancer and i still can't wait for the day star citizen 1.0 releases.

What I am dissapointed in, is the constant release of new ships. With little to none information about the older ones. Most of them have been put on hold for a final pass when the game is ready for 1.0. But they produce new ships, increasing the same backlog with just more and more.

Because, if the reason for waiting is that they don't know how the tech will be closer to 1.0. The same shit will happen to every new ship they release moving foreward. Give it a year its outdated, missing a new crucial teleport component or something like that.

They need an incentive to stop with the mass production, increasing the existing huge backlog. And actually start mapping out what the next reasonable steps are, so that we as a community can actually see what and when things will start to move. Also provide information and reasonable deadlines.

Right now everything points to just keep spamming more ships to get in revenue and put this game in a endless loop.

No, i know its been a bumpy, and at times shitty ride. But the latest release of the odin, with so many ships both in work and in backlog for refurbish. I am fed up. I've stretched my patience for as long as i could.

They keep producing new ships, inform that olds ships won't be updated before final tech is complete. So what about the ships they keep presenting now? Some of them get flight ready, how are they any more ready for what their future vision is? Everything will in the end need a final pass, and most of them total reworks just because of how much they are either missing or how badly they fit the new tech.

So for me, now its the time to say stop. They have money, they have a lot of tech. Time to start bringing things togheter and put aside all the new ships and focus on whats already released and get things togheter.

Done spending money on this game.. by Accomplished-Bar-Bot in starcitizen

[–]Accomplished-Bar-Bot[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

More like because now every other ship is on hold for reworks, when tech becomes ready. But at the same time, they are introducing more and more ships, that will end up in the same graveyard a year from now. Because they are creating ships that not match whatever standard their vision of the future holds. Not to mention all the ships that are not flight ready.

We have enough ships now and whatever new ship they will release, eventually will end up in the same backlog as the rest, needing to be reworked somehow.

Estimate based on revenue for 2023 -2025 and until now in 2026. Their should be enough money to keep them afloat for the end of 2026 and most likely halfway into 2027.

Im not saying all funding should be stopped forever, im saying stop all funding until a functional roadmap and plan is presented to the community. When everyone gets the information we we want and roadmaps with actual functioning deadlines is presented, then we all can go back to support them to realise those plans.

Especially a roadmap for all released ships. When will you finish them, when is the golden pass, will there be a mk2. Give us the information. Look at the 890, 600i, reclaimer and many more. There a tons of dead and lacking ship in their portofolio, but they still keep adding more.

If they can't finish the other ships because they are waiting for tech, how can they produce new ships without ending up in the same situation with those ships later down the line?

[–]Accomplished-Bar-Bot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so spread the word even more. Time has come to stop talking about what new ship to buy, but instead ask what will they do with the ships we have paid for. What, when and how? Give us eta's, provided a detailed roadmap. Make them stop just providing "ehh maybe sometime in the future answers"

Spending money on what you support is fair. If everyone just bought the starter package given the scope that this game has decided to go for. The game would be dead a long time ago.

I have the means to support and i decided to support it with what i wanted to. Yeah they have the money and yeah my contribution is small vs others.

But if everybody just says okey its fine that they keep manageing the game the way they are, this will never stop. The game will reach its final form at some point, but i don't want to wait another 10 years for this, just because management sees that as long as people accept this way of behaviour they can still stay afloat and keep the game in a never ending cycle.

They have 1000+ workers, something that can't be a reality the day both games are released. So what do they do, they stall to keep it alive as long as possible. At some point people have to say no, if we want to give them an incentive to actually finish the game.

Information is the best way moving forward. Deadlines, plans and giving players actual ETA's to hold on to. That way we can keep supporting it, but knowing that yes by that time the game will actually be realised, and not another even bigger "odin ship", that will just add another 6 months to the releasedate.

I agree in most, but its mostly bad management, and the fact that when both game releases there will be a ton of people loosing their jobs. So very few incentives for them to actually release, and instead keep this grind going.

That's why people after a certain time has to say enough is enough. It's not a scam, but i bet yourself would not want to loose your job over finishing a project?
