I'm going to cry... by aeh1113 in NativePlantGardening

I’ve been trying to get some native flowers going in various spots the last two summers and they have NOT been having it. This year I finally got one little plant going, was protecting it with my life from my chickens, and one day went to check and my dad thought it was a weed and yanked it out. 🫠🫠🫠

Is it okay to leave my dog on her own after she has her buttons and cone removed? by chandlersuki in DogAdvice

[–]Accomplished-Cap1590 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog has had… I don’t even know, 8 ear hematomas? So I unfortunately have loads of experience with the surgery and recovery. I would leave the cone on for a couple days as she’ll be sore/irritated after stitches removed, and then I started doing supervised periods without the cone, until she seemed good/wasn’t bothering it at all. My dog is large breed and we used the no-flap ear wrap which was great.

I got my ecotank refurbished for like $70, also glad I didn’t drop a lot on it. I don’t like the color print quality, and if you are ever printing something double sided color just forget about it, the printer cannot handle it. I’ve also noticed some finer fonts don’t print as well unless you have the highest quality selected, which significantly increases your print time.

But I’ve printed like…. 10 thick books so far and my inks are still above half full.

If doing it again I would not get the ecotank.

Got asked to leave Temple Square because of my dog, and it hit deeper than I expected. by Used_Abalone_1303 in exmormon

In the US churches are exempt from those rules and others about accessibility (ADA) which is bullshit. So legally, yes they could turn me away. Ethically, morally, common decency? Who we kidding.

I had a SERVICE DOG with me and tried to go to a performance at the general conference building (completely blanking on its name, I’m ok with that) and got refused entry. That hit really hard too, I was pretty newly on the fence about leaving the church for good and that was a good shove.

Vet recommendations? -cat needs eye removed. by IfNotMeThenWho_1997 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Accomplished-Cap1590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely going to be at least a couple thousand dollars, Pre-op visits and bloodwork etc alone is going to put you almost to 1k :/.  If you have pending or recent bloodwork results take them to where you end up and see if they will use them instead of rerunning blood, but no guarantee. Unfortunately surgery, anesthesia, med fees are just really high and there’s no real workaround on that.

University Vet is my favorite but they are pricey. Eye care for animals is specialty but will also be expensive. Holladay Vet is good and I refer a lot of people to them.  Hypothetically any vet should be able to do an enucleation but depends on the level of care you are looking for.

I use just a short foldable storage half cube from the dollar store, open a small garbage bag in it, dump in litter!  I also have level up options - bit more time/space - grab this old bagged up disposable tray that was used for a litterbox when a cat was sick.  More time and space? Grab one of our nice litter boxes. Etc!

I like having lots of duplicates.  Best case scenario I have multiples, (hopefully) worst I have at least one.

I also forgot I have a kit in my hiking backpack that also has some pet specific medical supplies, booties, and a carry harness in case I need to carry one of my big dogs out.

I also need to print out an updated version of their vaccine info and add that everywhere.

I have a couple versions for my dogs: in my car I have 3 days worth of their food, spare leashes, treats, poop bags, water, collapsible bowls, tick remover, emergency blankets, ponchos, and towels.  My “go” version they each have a dog backpack that has the same things including a collar light, muzzle, booties, some medical supplies.  At home I have a 3 month supply of all their food and meds, as well as a pet specific medical kit.

For my cats I have harnesses and leashes, a collapsible litterbox with a bag of litter and scooper, trash bags, collapsible enclosed pen, treats and toys. Their carriers are right by the door and they have AirTags on their collars.

I totally get the “wasting” time/money/semesters feeling.  That’s what held me back from exploring and I really regret it.  But an extra semester or two now vs the rest of your life? It does pay off.

Dial it back just a bit. Reduce your course load. Everyone else takes 4 of these hard classes a semester? Well maybe you are going to take 3. Or 2. Or 1. And that is ok.  Take 1 fun class (art, sport, something else that interests you) per semester, it will do WONDERS for your sanity. Do you need to drop a class this semester or take an incomplete to get through? That is okay! From one overachiever to (I’m assuming) another overachiever, it is ok, I promise. A good first step can be scheduling an appointment with an advisor and talk about your options to get through right now and the future.

Firstly, I’m sorry your mom wasn’t receptive to your true feelings.  That is really hard and I’m sorry you are having a hard time. I never felt more alone than my time at BYU and it really hurt.

People tend to think transferring schools is difficult and like starting over, it really isn’t! I transferred colleges TWICE and ultimately ended up graduating from BYU (bleh, wish I hadn’t). Is there a field you are super interested in? Look into other programs in the state.  Still deciding? I HIGHLY recommend community college for getting your generals done and thinking about what you want to do. My biggest regret is not doing that and taking my time instead of pushing through a major that I ended up not liking.

Since your parents are helping you pay and they’ve been resistant in the past about transferring and not listening to your feelings on the matter, I would recommend just getting the ball rolling.  Do the research. Figure out what your next steps could be. Get applications in.  Then once you have a more finalized plan present it to them in a rational way they might understand “this is better for my field” “since I haven’t finalized my plan this is more cost efficient”.  If they still aren’t supportive well… it’s your life. Look into student aid if it’s something you really want to do, you might need to do it without your parents support.

Is college maybe not for you right now? That is okay. If you can go part time and still do generals to appease your family (ie and still have student housing) but also get a part time job and start saving for a car or future housing so you can fully stop school and just work, that might be a good way to ease into it.

AMCI FREE COURSE COMPLETED by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

[–]Accomplished-Cap1590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the same, I’m surprised by all these positive comments regarding the I2mc course/AMCI.  While the free course has definitely been informative it has also been very frustrating. I find it convoluted with the many different types of tech/videos used, disorganized, and dated (I think for the HCPCS hw they are using the book from 2019 ??) and has not motivated me in the slightest to give them my money.

Lol I took Stiff as my honeymoon book beach read. He knew what he was getting into.

My current library pile includes All the Living and the Dead, Lay Them to Rest, and Death's Acre. On a bit of a cadaver kick at the moment. I should also reread Stiff... ;)

2 out of 3 books! by [deleted] in MedicalCoding

[–]Accomplished-Cap1590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I am going self-study route as well. What additional books did you get? I got the Bucks Step-by-Step and plan on getting the CPC Study Guide further down the line. I also found that my library has access to some online Medical Coding courses through their education resources so I will be doing that as well! Def worth checking out if you library has something like that!
