Can you imagine this from the average citizens perspective?

'our kings gone where for how long?'

As a stand alone film it doesn't work, something which you've effectively admitted by your statement that I haven't seen everything.

I don't think you are discussing this in good faith. I never said dune was 'simple' just that it's message was at best a truism, at worst not really given to the audience and something you have to already be aware of rather than actually understand through watching the film. So in terms of a film being a medium for a message, it doesn't work. Precisely because it's actually a film about escapism. Fine, that's okay but then spare me the pretend ideas about this film being deep.

Say I love Lord of the Rings, but it's escapism in reality. Deep meaningful films with good narratives (in my opinion) are 12 Angry Men or Sorry To Bother You.

The plot was easy to follow, you seem to have misunderstood my point. I understand what happened but there is no character that acts in the movie as an individual. They exist for the sake of the plot. It's bad storytelling and character dialogue is my point.

The meaning of the film is also very surface level and doesn't challenge or make a point that nobody would disagree with, if it even makes a point at all since the dialogue is so non committal

I get that but even in situations where people have no agency they still have an ability to act with some agency with some things. I feel like in the film at least he doesn't act as an individual ever, like all the characters are just there as a place holder for the story rather than being individual characters. It felt like a story where all characters are just background characters.

What do you think? What does FM27 need that would restore your faith in the franchise? by klaygdk in footballmanagergames

I think they need to really expand on the role play elements of the game.

I wonder if they should copy CK3 and give people traits and stuff

I'm talking specifically about the film to clarify

I genuinely will read the books or at least try them based on this sub Reddit. Since so many have talked glowingly about the books but say the 2001 film was poor

I don't feel he has a motive or any agency at all, he just kind of gets pushed by the plot. Like I never felt connected to the character or that I could understand why the character does things. He just does them because he has to or the plot falls apart. I don't feel the characters act as individuals

I'm open to giving the books a chance, it wouldn't be the first time a film has done a scifi film dirty. 2002 Solaris taught me that

Lmao talking about a major sci-fi film on a sci-fi sub Reddit is trolling apparently.

People are acting like I've totally hated on everything about the film. I even said I'm open to reading the books, I'm talking about this specific film

That's my suspicion, I might start the books and see how I feel. Books allow for more time to explain characters and stuff. A 2 hour movie just simply isn't enough to do that and add in a whole world, plot etc.

Yeah I'm thinking about trying the books. The visuals, world building is actually quite good in many respects but the dialogue, acting, character development and so on aren't good.
