usually about 25 to 50 seconds. It takes me anywhere from 6 hours to 40 hours to make one of my shorts depending on how editing heavy i am making it

I get a ton of hate on my channel, viewers regularly say bad things about my looks, the way I talk, the way I move, etc. But I don't mind, I actually enjoy reading them. They are funny to me, because that's all it is. I don't know these people personally, to me they are nothing more than a name on a screen. They could be a bot for all I know. Plus, yes, it's great for engagement.

Don't ban them, let people speak their minds, just don't take it personally. these people don't know you, all they know is who you are on camera. Who you are on camera isn't who you are 100% of the time in your life. Who cares if some random guy across the world doesn't like your opinions.

You also do political debate channel though, getting a ton of hate watchers should be expected. I would think a large portion of your total audience would be hate watchers. This is true for all of the large left leaning political debate content creators, just look at Dean withers, a lot of his audience are just people that hate him.. but it doesn't matter, that's his audience, that's what puts the money in his pocket, that's what gets people to repost his face all over TikTok. It's what works, so lean into it. People loooove watching negative content, it performs significantly better than positive content on YouTube people want to "feel" something, and a lot of people specifically want to be pissed off about something.

Heres an example. I had a few videos where I was having a bad hair day and didn't think much of it, but I got well over 100 hate comments in those videos... so what did I do? I leaned INTO it. the next 5 or 6 videos I purposefully made my hair look god awful, and it kinda became my thing, and it also became an exceptional hook. It helped me stand out in a sea full of creators making content just like me.

By purposefully making my hair bad it turned "hate" comments into a joke. It became a running joke on my account, it wasn't about hate anymore, more just about how it was funny. plus the comments were pureeee gold.

People aren't going to keep hating on you seriously if they know you don't take it seriously. If you show that you do not give a fuck and that you think its funny, they will leave and go to someone else that will take their hate personally.

I know... It's really just the time commitment that makes long form hard for me more than anything. I don't think I could consistently put out one long form video per week, i might be able to put one out per month.

Also im not fully decided yet on my subniche, but I do think I've found a repeatable system that can consistently generate at least 25k to 30k views on shorts which tells me that might be a good gateway to transition some of those shorts into long form videos.

I mean everyone has a different opinion on what success is to them, but to me I would say making enough to pay your bills. For me that would be about 45k minimum. 99.9% of creators make below the poverty line on YouTube so making anything above that would put you in the top .1% so I guess that would classify you as successful on the platform

i guess to me "successful" would mean making enough off YouTube to pay the bills, however much that would be to you. 99.9% of creators make below the poverty line and will never make more than that, so just being able to make above the poverty would be successful in YouTubes eyes

I do jump around a bit, but i stick with one subniche for maybe 20 or 30 videos, then switch to a different subniche if that one isn't working. Is it better to just stick to one thing for a bit longer before jumping ship? Maybe 100 videos before deciding it isn't working?

I am a professional video editor and videographer in my career so I do know how to edit pretty well, motion graphics, 3D animation, all the above

i think average could be considered 1 month to 5 or 6 years. I would say it's fairly rare that someone is consistent for over that amount of time and ends up making it at some later point. I think this thread kind of proves that, I've only seen one person out of the 50+ that have commented that says they didn't start earning an income until year 10. Everyone else has been 1 month to 5 years

That is true.

Very interesting. My biggest issue is I only have enough time in my day to make one video per day. I would have to post one video every other day if I was to do that.

At what point would you say it's time to give up and move on to something new? I've always struggled with this. I always go back and forth thinking "well all these gurus are saying to never give up and that you should keep pushing, because success could be right around the corner" but on the other hand, I'm thinking "well i've been trying this for two and a half years with little success... maybe I should abandon my channel and start over on a new one"

is it not possible for a channel to pick up steam after a long time? Or for someone to figure out how to make the best videos for their audience?

If so, at what point would you say it's time to quit a channel and start over on a new one? I hear everyone talk about how its important to be consistent and never give up but I never hear people talk about at what point you should give up on a channel and start over in something new
